LION'S WAY

Gorion's Death

And of course the famous cinema where Gorion sacrifices himself to save the protagonist. Imoen soon arrives to join Avastrian on his adventures.

Gorion's Letter

Now I travel north and east a little bit, and run into some Diseased Gibberlings. There's more than one way to deal with low-level monsters when it's just you and Imoen. Both require Imoen to hang back and use her arrows as needed, as she's nowhere close to fit for melee combat at this point (or ever). One is to make sure that your character has credible armor class through purchases at Winthrop's, and then engage the monsters in straight melee while Imoen hangs back. A Cleric protagonist may need to buff himself up a little before doing this. For a more vulnerable arcane spellcaster, which includes Avastrian, it's a matter of choosing the right spell for the occasion. Sleep is the spell of choice, which does far more against groups of enemies in comparison to a single-target spell like Magic Missiles. Avastrian is able to knock all of the Diseased Gibberlings out and then kill them one by one. Imoen doesn't even needed to bother with any arrows.

I continue on to where Gorian and myself were first ambushed. I then collect a couple of rings and some gold, as well as read a letter addressed to Gorion.

Chase

Now I go almost due west, and then a little south. I find a seemingly suicidal nobleman named Chase. However, all of the dialogue options lead to him not seeing it through. He also hints that the reason for his depression was the loss of a diamond from one of his rings.

I then continue southeast, back towards the road. I run into a pair of Dire Wolves that I kill off after putting to Sleep.

Xzar and Montaron

I continue east along the road, and run into a merchant named Kolssed who can offer little help besides obvious advice.

I continue along the road, and agree to let Xzar, a Necromancer, and Montaron, a Halfling Fighter/Thief, join my party. There is strength in numbers during the early parts of the game. In fact, there's a certain fight soon ahead that almost makes taking the duo along mandatory.

At 4:17 of the video, I find the Diamond that Chase was referring to. Nice.

In continue northwest for a bit, and kill off a couple of Wolves after putting them to Sleep.

Now I'm ready to journey on to the Friendly Arm Inn.
