THE CULT OF THE UNSEEING EYE

Here in the old sewers is the place where the Cult of the Unseeing Eye has made its abode. It is not a hospitable place, and no sane person would want to go here. But sane or not, like it or not, the temple has asked you to investigate the cult, so here you are...

  1. Here is the exit to the Sewers.

  2. When you get too close to the room at 3, four Ettercaps will appear in this room.

  3. There is a trap at the entrance to this room. Here you will also encounter a few Shadows.

  4. Here will be more Shadows, or possibly Wraiths (level drains!), waiting for you.

  5. When you enter this room, the doors will slam shut, a Stinking Cloud trap is triggered, and two Vampiric Mists attack you.

To open the doors, you must click the wheel in the center of the room. It pays off to send one or two characters with magic resistance and resistance against level drains into the room to take the attacks and clear the road for the rest of the party.

  6. Here you will meet Gaal, high priest of the Cult of the Unseeing Eye. The first time you enter, it is recommended to play along and pretend to be interested in his cult. Gaal will ask you to go down into the areas below to find a magical rod, the Rift Device, for him. Gaal gives you Gaal's Key to the door at 11.

Depending on who you have in your party, one or more of them may realize from what Gaal says that the Unseeing Eye is really a Beholder – for example, Viconia knows these beasts well from her time in the Underdark.

If you return here after killing the Unseeing Eye, Gaal and his Elite Guards attack you. The Guard Captain drops a Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy and Bracers of Defense AC 7. Gaal drops a Quarterstaff, some random treasure, and the Girdle of Fortitude.

  7. Here you will witness a new cult member having his eyes removed. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't survive the initiation rites...

  8. Here is Tad and the entrance to the Ghoul Bridge Area. To use the stairs down, you must tell Tad the secret password, which is "The Eye is Blind". You learn this password from Sassar at 13 after you have found the first part of the Rift Device.

  9. This is Gaal's room. After you have defeated the Unseeing Eye and Gaal and his guards, you are free to loot the room.

The table at (x=1820, y=2350) contains Scrolls of Protection from Normal Missiles and Slow plus 980 GP.

    The closet at (x=2040, y=2210) contains a Ziose Gem, 40 Bullets +1, and 40 Darts +1.

  10. Here are four small rooms belonging to the cultists. After you have defeated the cult, they can be looted. Taking the rooms from left to right:

The chest at (x=1170, y=1660) contains Scrolls of Animate Dead and Cone of Cold plus 130 GP.

The chest at (x=1300, y=1350) contains 73 GP, 40 Arrows of Ice, and 40 Bolts of Biting.

The chest at (x=1520, y=1200) contains a Scroll of Cloudkill.

The chest at (x=1700, y=1140) contains 57 GP and 20 Arrows of Piercing.

The table at (x=2070, y=1100) contains a Moonstone Gem, 109 GP, and 30 Darts of Wounding.

The chest at (x=2180, y=1120) contains a Scroll of Non-Detection, 24 GP, an Andar Gem, and a Skydrop Gem.

  11. This door is closed. You will need Gaal's Key to open it.

Near this place you will sometimes be attacked by an Otyugh or a Mephit.

  12. Watch out for a trap at (x=2440, y=560) which can drain levels.

  13. Here is Sassar. He will ask you to go below and assemble the Rift Device, but not for Gaal!

When you return with the first half of the Rift Device, Sassar asks you to go to Tad at 8 and give him the password, "The Eye is Blind", so you can go to the Unseeing Eye's Lair and find the other half of the device. He warns you not to speak to Gaal, lest he realizes what you are up to! He also warns you that you should NOT bring the Rift Device out of the Sewers and into the open, or you will die. Heed this warning; it is the truth!

  14. In the room to the right of Sassar, the chest at (x=2100, y=240) contains a Scroll of Lower Resistance and a few GP. The chest at (x=2330, y=270) contains 40 Bolts +2 and a few GP.

  15. Sassar will warn you against touching this coffin. If you click the coffin a couple of times, you will release a Shade Lich which is not recommended until you are reasonably high level.

Once you have killed the Shade Lich, click the coffin again to acquire the Golden Arms and Legs which you need for the Kangaxx quest.

  16. Watch out for the trap at (x=1210, y=1110) which releases a lightning bolt.

  17. This door can only be opened from the inside, so you must come from 18 to open it.

  18. Here is the entrance from the Lair of the Unseeing Eye.

  19. Here are a few Wraiths and Shadows. Watch out for level drains.

  20. Here is the exit to the Rift Area.
