THE SLUMS

Slums have their own charm, depending on your tastes of course. There is the reek of garbage, the poverty, the beggars and harlots - but also the cheap shops, the bars, and often the unexpected allies.

Every city has its slums and Athkatla is no exception to this rule.

  1. This is where you arrive in the Slums District.

The first time you arrive in the district, this is also where you meet Gaelan Bayle.

  2. Here are two other exits from the Slums.

  3. Here are the two entrances to the Copper Coronet.

If you are doing the Buried Alive quest and you decide to demand ransom for Lady Elgea, this is also where you will meet Welther. He will only be present here at night.

If Mazzy is in your party, this is where you will see Gorf the Squisher beating up random people for fun. Mazzy will challenge him to a duel; please see the Mazzy and Gorf the Squisher quest.

  4. The first time you pass here, Bregg and Cohrvale decide they don't like your face and attack you. They are not exactly expert fighters. Both of them drop some mundane weapons and armor plus random treasure.

  5. At night you will meet a Storekeep here. She sells an assortment of mundane weapons and armor and some more interesting items. Click here for shop inventory.

  6. Here is the entrance to the Jansen Home.

  7. Here is the entrance to Gaelan Bayle's home.

  8. At night you can meet some guards leading a slave. Lasivern has informed me that you can in fact kill the two guards after they have bribed off the city guard, without reputation loss, since nobody cares if you kill off a couple of slavers. You get a bit of XP and random loot for killing the two slavers, and 5,500 XP for speaking to the slave afterwards.

  9. Here is the entrance to the Slaver Boat. If you're planning to eradicate the Slaver presence in the Slums, however, it is easier to attack them by going through the Slums Sewers which are accessible at 20 in the Copper Coronet.

  10. This derelict house is the home of Baron Ployer. If Jaheira is in your party, you will need to come here for a showdown with Ployer in connection with the Jaheira Gets Cursed quest. You can loot the house for a few GP and a note from a person called Terrece.

  11. Here, only at night, you will meet Travin if you're doing the Ring of Lathander quest.

  12. Here is the entrance to the Planar Sphere. To open the door to the sphere, you must have Valygar in your party, or you must have killed him and have his body in your inventory.

  13. Here is Borinall's House. You can only enter after you have spoken to Travin in connection with the Lathander's Ring quest. Travin will be at 11 at night.

  14. Here is the Temple of Ilmatar. In addition to temple services the temple sells a number of scrolls and potions. Click here for shop inventory.

This is also one of the temples where you can bring Yoshimo's Heart in Chapter 6 for a large XP reward.

  15. Here, only at night, you will find a Black Market Thief who sells mundane weapons and armor as well as a few magical items. Click here for shop inventory.

  16. If you're doing the Book of Kaza quest for Korgan, this is where you will run into, and fight, Korgan's old mate Shagbag and his party.
