THE HELLISH POCKET PLANE, CHAPTER 9

During Chapter 9, you will gain access to three more challenges which must be completed before you can proceed to Chapter 10. Besides which, the pocket plane serves much the same purpose as in Chapter 8: A safe resting place and a place where you can summon new NPCs to aid your cause.

  1. Here is still the exit to the outside world. During Chapter 9 you will always be taken to the place you came from.

When you have completed all five challenges and are ready for the final battle, you get the option to go to the Throne of Bhaal and let the Pocket Plane collapse. This will complete Chapter 9.

  2. The Fate Spirit can still summon NPCs you haven't already summoned – or gotten killed.

  3. In the central area you can still find Cespenar.

This is also where you meet the Solar after killing Abazigal, Sendai, and Balthazar.

    - Your first meeting happens after you kill either Abazigal or Sendai. After a short briefing where you get to speak to an alternative version of yourself, the Solar opens the path to another challenge at 4.

    - Your second meeting happens after you've killed the other of these two Bhaalspawn. This time you will meet the ghost of Yaga-Shura who explains why The Five was formed. And that the last of The Five is Balthazar. The Solar then opens the path to the challenge at 5.

    - Your third meeting happens after you've killed Balthazar. At this point you will learn who your final enemy is. (If you haven't guessed yet, I won't spoil it here.:-) The discussion ends with the Solar opening the path to the last challenge at 6.

  4. Here you will meet your innocence – yourself as you were back in Candlekeep – or your doubt. When the conversation reaches the inevitable conclusion – that your innocence is long lost, or that you have no need of doubt – your alter ego turns into The Slayer. A tough battle with a risk of level drains but straight melee apart from that.

When the battle is won, you get 30,000 XP and each other party member gets 25,000 XP.

  5. Here is where you will face your fourth challenge. You get to meet Cyric, the reigning God of Murder. After the discussion he sics a few of his "favored" on you but gives you time to prepare first.

I suggest you do. You will have a little time before three "Favored of Cyric" – high-level Assassins – arrive. Try to get as many True Seeings active as you can, and of course make other necessary preparations.

  6. Here is your final challenge. You will have to do battle with The Ravager, a Slayer avatar with more than 500 hit points. The Ravager casts Blade Barrier and summons a few magical Bone Blade swords to his aid, then attacks. Breach to remove his Blade Barrier followed by repeated Greater Whirlwind attacks should do the trick.

For killing The Ravager, the party gets 50,000 XP. You get an additional 30,000 XP and each other party member gets 25,000 XP for completing the challenge.

  7. These are the rooms where you took your challenges in Chapter 8. They no longer serve any practical purpose.
