How to find: Go to the Government District in Athkatla and talk to Dalon to get the Deaths in the Umar Hills quest. Or, speak to Tolgerias in the Council of Six Building to get the Find Valygar for the Cowled Wizards quest. Travel to the Umar Hills. Valygar is in his cabin at 14 in the northwestern corner of the map.
If dropped: Goes back to his cabin in the Umar Hills.
NPC Quest: No
Relations with other NPCs: I have been told that Valygar will attack Edwin if he is in the party but I haven't been able to get them to fight.
Valygar may get into a fight with Viconia if you speak to the "lady" Oriana in the Government District. She hits on Valygar who rejects her, and when Viconia questions his manhood, they both leave the party and fight to the death.
Mazzy will engage Valygar as her squire, without asking his permission first – she believes Valygar ought to be honored to become the squire of a real knight! ;-) Valygar isn't too happy about this but soon resigns himself to his fate.
Jan Jansen can't leave the moody Ranger alone and bugs him with (false) stories of his own family, including his Ranger aunt. When Jan starts telling a story about his mother, Valygar for once silences the chattering gnome with the (true) story of his own mother.
Behavior that causes him to leave the party: If the party's reputation drops to 4 or below, Valygar becomes a Fallen Ranger. Valygar leaves permanently if the party's reputation drops to 2 or below.
Valygar also threatens to leave if you side with Bodhi in Chapter 3; however he remains with the party.
Background information: Valygar Corthala is the last member of the Corthalas, a family which has been cursed (as he sees it) with a large number of wizards and witches. Valygar has sworn never to marry and have children, so that the family line may die with him.
