Sten - a sample development guide

The Qunari Warrior

Sten

Strength: 28
Dexterity: 15
Willpower: 15
Magic: 12
Cunning: 10
Constitution: 13

Spells and Talents when he joins: Powerful, Threaten, Precise Striking, Taunt, Pommel Strike, Indomitable, Sunder Arms, Mighty Blows, Powerful Swings

*NOTE* This particular page is based on the idea that Sten is a core member of an evil party consisting of my Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage, Zarathos, Morrigan, and Zevran. In such an instance, I'm relying on him as my main heavy-hitter, and as a Reaver. When playing as a good party, I avoid desecrating the Urn of Sacred Ashes with the Vial of Dragon Blood, so I would be inclined to look for talents other than the Reaver ones.

Eighth Level: Stunning Blows
Like I said, passive traits can often be the best ones, and this one augments Sten's power considerably. Every blow he strikes has a chance to stun the target.

Ninth Level: Two-Handed Strength
This one lessens the penalties for Powerful Swings, which I often use for foes with greater armor.

Tenth Level: Two-Handed Sweep
This nifty ability acts as both an offensive strike and as a defensive measure rolled into one. When I get this, I'll adjust Sten's script so that he'll unleash this whenever he's surrounded by 3 or more foes.

Eleventh Level: Critical Strike
I script Sten to use this whenever an enemy is unable to move, resulting in frequent Shatterings and many otherwise severely damaging blows.

Twelvth Level: Bravery
Passive traits are sometimes the best traits to have, and this one is no exception, increasing Sten's combat bonuses and his chance to score critical hits the more enemies he faces.

Thirteenth Level: Death Blow
Anything that helps Sten recover stamina has got to be a good thing, and considering this comes into effect whenever Sten kills something with his massive damage, you can imagine this will come into play quite often.

Fourteenth Level: Shattering Blows
A passive trait that will be effective against Golems and other constructs, but is also a stepping stone to other abilities.

Fifteenth Level: Sunder Armor
I script Sten so that he uses this whenever he attacks a foe that is classified as 'high armor'.

Sixteenth Level: Destroyer
Another awesome passive trait, this one has a chance of weakening armor whenever you strike an enemy with it.

Seventeenth Level: Devour
I have Sten develop the Reaver specialization. After getting this ability, I script Sten to use this whenever his health falls below 50%, a passive way to recoup some health.

Eighteenth Level: Frightening Appearance
I don't actually script Sten to use this, since it distracts him from what he does best. The point is to enhance the effectiveness of Taunt.

Nineteenth Level: Aura of Pain
I tend to use this after a group of foes has taken some damage from area-effect spells. The idea is that by the time I get to this situation, the party should have softened up the monsters with spells or melee attacks, and this can then kick in to hasten the end. Be mindful that a Health Poultice or a healing spell may be needed once this is activated.

Twentieth Level: Blood Frenzy
Potentially useful, but I never got around to it. At this point, I'm running out of meaningful choices so I simply round out the Reaver specialization.
