Elven Alienage

Elven Alienage

This Origins story starts with you in your house. You'll also have Adaia's Boots in your inventory. Your cousin Shianni is busy reminding you that today is your big wedding day despite your apparent grogginess. You can also talk to your mother, Cyrion, if you wish. So its a matter of stepping out the door and into the neighbourhood.

  1. This is your starting point when you first emerge from your house.

  2. Here you'll find a few Elves drinking it up. You can use Persuasion to convince them to give you as much as 40 silvers.

  3. Here is the Elven Alienage Tree, which is considered sacred to the locals. You'll also find a few Elves standing around it.

One is Dilwyn. You can convince him to give you 15 silvers for your big wedding day.

Another is Taedor. You can talk to him about what he knows of the Dalish Elves, and thereby get a Codex Entry for them.

Another is a young girl named Nessa and her two parents. The parents are going to move out in order to be laborers in the King of Ferelden's military camp. Nessa doesn't want to leave though, and convincing her father to let her stay will be tough. If you are going to help Nessa, there's at least 3 ways to resolve this. One is to use Persuasion to convince the father to let her stay. Another is to give him 3 silvers so that she can rent a room in the Alienage. Another is to give him 10 silvers so that the whole family can stay in the Alienage.

  4. Here is Alarith's Shop. He'll sell largely mundane items. If you look around, you can find a book that provides a Codex entry for "Culture of Ferelden".

  5. Here you'll find an Elven boy and girl who are playing Human heroes. If you press the conversation with them, they'll reveal that they aren't aware of any Elven heroes. You then have the option of making up an Elven hero, along with tales of the hero's exploits, on the spot. The children will then start to play at imitating the new Elven hero.

  6. Shianni
  7. Here is where you'll meet your cousin, Soris. He explains that you're both getting married. He feels he's stuck with a less than desirable woman. You in the meantime will have lucked out by his reckoning. If your Elven character is male, your betrothed is an Elven woman named Nesiara. If your Elven character is female, your betrothed is an Elf named Nelaros. When you're ready to begin, Shianni and your betrothed will be a little south. Head over, and a crucial sequence will begin. An arrogant and lecherous Bann Vaughan will arrive, expecting to help himself to the local ladies. However you handle this situation, it will end with Shianni knocking him out with a bottle. His companions then leave, for now.

Afterwards, at about this same spot, a human with armor and weapons slung on his back arrives. Sorin urges you to stand tough and convince the man to leave. However much you may try however, nothing will either faze this man or get him the least bit upset. It turns out that he's a veteran member of the order of Grey Wardens, and that he's actually here to see your village Elder, Valendrian, as an old friend. With this matter resolved, both Duncan and Valendrian will encourage you to go ahead with your wedding.

  8. Wedding DayThis is where your wedding ceremony starts. Only, Bann Vaughn returns in force, and has all the young Elven women present kidnapped and taken back to his estate. That includes you if your Elven character is female.

If your Elven character is male, it will fall to you and your cousin, Soris, to attempt a rescue of the women. At this point, Ducan interjects, and will provide you with a Borrowed Longsword (Iron) and a Crossbow (Elm).

  9. Here is the gate leaving the Alienage and the way to the Arl of Denerim Estate.
