THE CIRCLE OF EIGHT MOD-PACK

The Circle of Eight is a fan-based site that, among other things, has produced a modification for the Temple of Elemental Evil game. The changes brought into the game can be summarized as follows:

1) The mod brings in a large number of patches/fixes that have been overlooked by the official patches. In this regard, you can think of the mod-pack as filling in holes left behind by the original developers. You may consider the mod-pack as compatible with Atari’s latest patch release (which is currently 3).

2) For anybody who’s having trouble looting dead bodies or opening doors on account of having Service Pack 2 of Windows XP or Direct X 9.c, the pack provides a fix for this problem.

3) With this mod it is now possible to obtain a Masterwork version of any type of weapon, armor, or shield that was listed in the official Manual of ToEE. In order to avail of this, talk to Brother Smythe. He’ll be found at location #10 in the village of Hommlet. Ask to see his ‘Masterwork items’. He’ll then ask which category of items you would like to see; armor, weapons, or shields. It's simply a matter of picking one and then viewing the inventory.

The real significance of this is that you can pretty much acquire a masterwork kind of any item listed in the official manual, and then shape it into a magical item according to your specifications. For this, at least one of your characters will need the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat. For more information on how to use this feat, follow this link.

4) The mod-pack makes additions to the items that can be created through the Craft Wondrous Items feat. The list of new items is as follows:

Bag of Tricks

5) The original pen and paper module upon which ToEE is based included a brothel, and minor quests associated with that brothel, in the village of Nulb. Shortly before release, Atari decided to axe the brothel from the game in order to avoid a “Mature rating” upon release. The mod-pack now restores that brothel. For coverage of this brothel, follow this link.
