People and Places in the Buried Village

1 is the place where you first arrive in the Buried Village. Here you can also exit back to the Trash Warrens.

One of the crates at 2 holds a set of Fist Irons.

At 3 you will see three Village Thugs gambling. They will leave you alone if you leave them alone. Otherwise, there will be trouble.

Ku'u Yin at 4 has lost his "name and number", which are now in the possession of Radine at 10. To get it back, go down and speak to Radine. You can solve this quest by diplomacy, or by browbeating her into giving it to you – the "name and number" turns out to be a tattoo of sorts.

On returning to Ku'u Yin, if you have been nice and honest (that is, you haven't demanded a reward or lied and said you didn't have the number), Ku'u Yin will realize he doesn't need it any longer and will offer it to you. Accepting it is a very Lawful act. The Number of Ku'u Yin can be worn as a tattoo by yourself if you are not of Chaotic alignment or by Dak'kon.

You can enter Ojo the Leatherhead's home at 5 and ask questions of Ojo. He will tell you about the "Man in the Wall" whom he speaks to and you will realize that the man in the wall is a rat. If you ask, Ojo can tell you that the collector Gris is dead. I believe Ojo was supposed to turn into a Warerat at some point but that this was removed from the game before release.

One of the crates at 6 contains 13 copper pieces.

At 7 you find the entrance to Marta the Seamstress' home. Enter and speak to her. Marta is in charge of digging out teeth and other valuables from bodies before the Collectors sell them to the Dustmen.

At 8 you can find Quint's Poison Charm. This is the item Quint at 13 will want you to find for him. Delivering it to Quint is worth 7,500 XP so hang on to it instead of using or selling it! (The hiding place can be a bit hard to find – position your curser at X=1050, Y=1675.)

The three Village Thugs at 9 will attack you almost as soon as they see you.

Radine at 10 is the person you want to speak to in connection with Ku'u Yin's missing name and number. With a Charisma of at least 13 you can sweet-talk her into giving you the tattoo; otherwise you will either have to browbeat her into giving it to you (Evil) or run back and forth between Radine and Ku'u Yin a few times.

The half buried crate at 11 contains a Tarnished Silver Bracelet and a Silver Earring.

One of the crates at 12 contains a Bone Charm.

Enter Quint's Shop at 13 to trade with him. You will have to tell him that you only trade with him. Quint sells a variety of potions, charms and items – you'll probably want to sell off any low-level treasure you've come across and stock up on healing charms.

Once you've traded, speak to Quint again. He will want you to find a charm that he has lent to one of the collectors, Gris. The easiest way is to just pick up the charm at 6. However, you can find Gris in one of the small crypts in the Weeping Stone Catacombs. Before you can speak to him, you have to learn to speak to the dead, which you will learn from the zombie queen Stale Mary in the Dead Nations. Gris can then tell you where the charm is. Returning the charm to Quint gains you 250 copper pieces, a better deal on anything you buy or sell at his shop, and 7,500 XP.

In the half buried crate at 14 you can find some Punch Daggers and 3 Bandages.

Under one of the rags at 15 you can find 23 copper pieces and a Leg Bone Club.

Uhir at 16 wants you to find his lucky knife, which he has lost down in the catacombs. You can find the knife on the Knifed Ghoul in the Dead Nations. The ghoul will give you the knife in return for six Cranium Rat Tails (or you can kill the ghoul for the knife). Take the knife back to Uhir for 5,000 XP.

At 17 you find the entrance to Pharod's Court.

The gate at 18 is locked. You need Barr to open it for you (or you can smash it open or lockpick it, in which case Barr and his three Village Thugs will attack you).

Each time you arrive here, either from the Buried Village or when you return from the Catacombs, you will need to ask him to open the gate for you, unless you have either killed the gate guards or forced Barr to open the gate at one point. However, you don't have to pass the gate more than twice; once from the Buried Village when Pharod sends you down into the Catacombs, and once when you return, at which point you will have to show him the Bronze Sphere or bribe or beat him into opening the gate.

The entrance to the Weeping Stone Catacombs is at 19.

Pharod's Court

This is the place where Pharod is hiding.

Map Key

  1. Exit back to the Buried Village.
  2. Pharod.
  3. Portal to Pharod's Vault.

Speak to Pharod at 2. Ask him what he knows about you. Before sharing his knowledge, Pharod wants you to find him a Bronze Sphere which is rumored to lie hidden somewhere down in the catacombs under the Buried Village.

Before leaving, you may ask Pharod some other questions:

To find the Bronze Sphere for Pharod, you must go through the Weeping Stone Catacombs and either the Dead Nations or the Warrens of Thought to the Drowned Nations. Once you have found the sphere, take it back to Pharod (15,000 XP), who then introduces you to his daughter Annah and tells her to show you the place where she found your body, thus starting Act 4.

At 3 you can find a portal to Pharod's Vault. The portal key is Pharod's staff, which you can only take from him if he dies. Since killing Pharod is not an option (it ends your game as a loss!) you can not explore this area until Act 4.
