THE FUNHOUSE

The Funhouse 1

The Funhouse 2

The Funhouse - Level 1-2

The Funhouse - Level 3-4

Spool Handle

I start off at #1 on the Funhouse 1 map. I then take the ladder at #2, which brings me to #2 on the Funhouse 3/4 map. I then take the ladder at #3, which brings me to #3 on the Funhouse 2 map.

From there, I go to #20 and press the button to open the wall. I then go ahead eastwards, where I run into several undead. Keep in mind that these undead may sometimes have Fire Crows with them, so be prepared with Fire Shield. I took out the single more powerful one, while Terra got rid of the other three with Dispel Undead.

At #21 is a Spool Handle, which is part of a 'stunt' that I'll soon have to perform in the Funhouse. I then go up the ladder at #4.

Rubber Band

I am now at #4 on the Funhouse 1 map. I then go to #23 and 'search', leading to the discovery of the Tarnished Key.

I backtrack and take the ladder again at #4. I then take the ladder at #3, which leads to #3 on the Funhouse 3/4 map.

I then use the Tarnished Key to open the gate at #24. At the south side of the room is a Rubber Band.

I then backtrack and take the ladder at #3. Then take the ladder at #4 on the Funhouse 2 map again, which leads to #4 on the Funhouse 1 map.

I then go to #25 and connect the Rubber Band to the fan. I go back up the ladder at #4 after that.

Funhouse Gadget

Now the party takes the ladder at #4 again, to wind up at #4 on the Funhouse 2 map. I then take the ladder at #3, to end up at #3 on the Funhouse 3/4 map.

Notice that on the Funhouse 3/4 map there are two places marked #5. I first go to the right #5. The point of this is to get a chain to drop downwards. Now I go to the left #5, and connect the Black Pyramid to the chain.

Now I take the ladder at #3 again, which takes me to #3 on the Funhouse 2 map. Now I go to #22, and use the Spool Handle to crank the chain back up.

Now I take the ladder at #3 again, to end up at #3 on the Funhouse 3/4 map. When I'm just one square south of the right #5, I use the Feather Weight Potion. I then right away go to the right #5. Now the point of all this becomes apparent. The Pyramid drops down the other side of the plank, sending me upwards, while the fan blows my temporarily lightened party members towards #6.

Bar & Rope

Now the party takes the ladder at #6 on the Funhouse 1 map, which leads to #6 on the Funhouse 3/4 map. I next take the ladder at #7 on Level 3 (the left side of the 3/4 map), which leads to #7 on Level 4 (the right side of the 3/4 map).

Keep in mind that you will usually find Jellyfish type monsters in this part. There are Jelly Stingers, which can paralyze and/or poison with their attacks. They can be dangerous in numbers, but they are also vulnerable to fire spells. Another one you might run into are Gelimagas, who can cast Mental Attack or Psionic Blast. They can also use a Demonic Power that can paralyze multiple party members. If there are just a few within hand's reach, you can probably kill them quickly enough before they do anything serious. If they're in the back ranks, you will probably need Silence and/or offensive spells of your own. If you find Gelimagas and Jelly Stingers together, a good strategy is go all out for the Gelimagas while the back rank characters blow away the Jelly Stinger supporters with fire spells.

Anyway, I go to #53, swim around and get to #54. I then go on to #55 and find a Bar & Rope which I will be using very soon. I then backtrack and leave this area by taking the ladder again at #7.

Bull's Eye

Now the party takes the stairs at #6, leading to #6 on the Funhouse 1 Map. They then go to the spot marked 'T'. I cast Levitate ahead of time. There's no way around this. I go into the cascading troughs and get slammed against the gate, and fall into the pit. I can't stop the damage from slamming into the gates, but Levitate does prevent any damage from falling down the pit.

Now I find myself at the spot marked 'T' on the Funhouse 3/4 map. At #31 is a Painted Ball that I'll need very shortly. A level at #32 opens the nearby gate. Now I take the ladder again at #6, which leads to #6 on the Funhouse 1 map.

As a digression, #9 on the Funhouse 1 map leads to a side quest that is available on #26 of the Funhouse 1/2 map. Here you may find the leader of the Razuka, Barlone. He wants you to find the time of arrival for a T'Rang Spaceship. I don't bother with this, but I will say something about it when I return to Nyctlalinth.

For now, I'm going through the large series of hallways in the middle of the Funhouse 1 map. There are plenty of fights to be had here. Errol takes Prismic Missile on his 13th level-up. It inflicts random effects on enemies, some of which can be quite devastating. I figure it's a spell that Terra may not be able to get around to taking by the end of the game when all is said and done, possibly finding herself needing to select other spells instead.

Now I take the ladder at #11, which takes me to #11 on the Funhouse 2 map. I then go one square east of #33. Now the goal here is to hit the target, "Bull's Eye", with the painted bull. If you miss, simply reload and try again.

Now I take the ladder at #11 again, which brings me to #11 on the Funhouse 1. I then go all the way back to 'T', the place with the cascading troughs. Now that I struck the Bull's Eye, the gate opens, and the cascading troughs send me on through to one square east of the spot marked 'T' on the Funhouse 2 map.

Now I go to #34, and place the Bar & Rope in the pit there. The reason for this will become apparent.

Black Ball

Now let's suppose I were to go from #34 to the spot marked 'BB'. This is a conveyor belt that takes me to the spot marked 'B' on the Funhouse 1 map. If I were then to go the spot marked 'S', it would send me down a water slide. Now as things stand, the water slide would only bring me to Level 4 on the right side of the Funhouse 3/4 map. This wouldn't be progress.

What needs to be done is to hit the right switches, which alter the turns in the water slide, in order to end up at the place I need to reach. The game designers obviously intended for this to encourage the player to experiment with the switches until the right destination is reached. But I'll simply cut to the chase for this playthrough.

I take the ladder at #12 on the Funhouse 2 map, which brings me to #12 on the Funhouse 3/4 map. I leave the switch alone at #39, but turn down the lever at #40.

I then take the ladder at #12 again, and then hit the switch at #38. I leave the switch at #36 alone.

I take the ladder at #13, which leads to #13 on the Funhouse 1 map. I then take the ladder at #14, which leads to #14 on the Funhouse 2 map. I hit the switch at #37. This is the correct settings for the switches.

Now I backtrack to #13 on the Funhouse 2 map. I then head for the spot marked 'BB', which brings me to 'B' on the 'B' on the Funhouse 1 map. I then go to the spot marked 'S' in order to go down the water slide.

It will bring me to the spot marked 'R' on the Level 3/4 map. If I hadn't previously installed the Bar & Rope at #34 on the Funhouse 2 map, I would have fallen below to Level 4 on the right side of the Level 3/4 map. But now that I have installed the Bar & Rope, it is conveniently dangling down when I reach 'R' and allows me to swing across.

I then press on to #41, and find a Black Ball.

Water Slide

Now I return to 'R', and climb up the rope. This brings me back to #34 on the Funhouse 2 map. From there, I use the conveyor belt to return to the top of the water slide. But I don't go down it just yet.

First I take the ladder at #10 on the Funhouse 1 map, which leads to #10 on the Funhouse 2 map. I then go to #35, and insert the Wooden Dowel into a hole in the hole. The reason for this will soon become apparent.

Now I take the ladder at #10 again, and go to #47 on the Funhouse 1 map. I then use the Black Ball here.

Now I go back to 'S' and then go down the water slide. I am then brought back to 'R'. I then go on to #43 on the Funhouse 3/4 map. At this point, the Black Ball falls down the chute, triggering a mechanism that sends me flying upwards. Now the Wooden Dowel is sticking out of the wall, allowing me to grab on and shimmy across without falling back down.

The end of the Funhouse is on the horizon.

Boat Map

Now I just follow the corridor ahead of me and take the stairs. This brings me to #15 on the Funhouse 1/2 map. I then take the stairs at #16 of Level 1, on the top side of the 1/2 map. This brings me to #16 on Level 2 of the 1/2 map.

I go ahead a little and fight 2 Fetid Corpses, 5 Zombie Skells, and 3 Fire Crows. Zarax, Chun-Li, Ryu and Rothgar take out the Fetid Corpses as quickly as they can. They can poison multiple characters with their bile. Terra gets rid of the Zombie Skells with Dispel Undead. Errol casts Fire Shield to minimize the damage from the Fire Crows. Rothgar takes Lightning on his 13th level-up.

At #45 is a rack of spears. Remember the clue that H'Jennra T'Rang gives: "The first is not before the third, nor the second but first after the sixth, it is the fifth that is first, and the fourth after third which is second, and only then shall the way be revealed." The proper sequence is 5-3-4-2-6-1. This opens the gate to the west.

At #46 is a chest with the Boat Map. Now I take the ladder at #16 again.

Now I go to #47 on Level 1 of the 1/2 map. I switch the lever, and this opens the gate at #48. I go across, and have to deal with a routine fight. I go up the ladder at #49, and emerge in the middle of the forest. My next destination is Giant Cave.
