MOUNT GIGAS UPPER CAVES

Mount Gigas Upper Caves

Firing Range

Now I take the elevator up to the Upper Caves. I have Ryu give the Doubleshot Sling to Chun-Li, since she could use some training in the Thrown & Sling Weapon skill for when she uses bombs. Although ultimately she will end up using a cursed weapon that will preclude use of alternate weapons. But the Sling for now is useful for the time being, including my next challenge.

I go east, and loot out the lockers in the 'Personnel' office. I go north from there and kill a few Bat Vampires.

I make my way to a computer at the point marked 'Security Clearance'. I use the Security Level 3 Pass to click on the computer, except it fizzles and gives me an error message. Now I look at the back of the computer, and notice that three wires are out of place. It's simply a matter of hooking each of the three wires back into place, and then clicking the Security Level 3 Pass on the panel of the computer again.

Now the entrance to the Firing Range is open, where I meet Sergeant Rubble again. He suggests target practice on the dummies nearby. You don't really need to practice or max your Modern weapon skill to any level. The real point is simply to have spoken to Sergeant Rubble here. But I destroy the Dummies anyway just to show how it's done. Vi Domina equips the Rocket Launcher in her primary weapon slot. Just having the Rockets in her inventory is enough, without having to equip them. There's more Rockets at the far end of the range and to the left. Now I start combat with the sword icon at the bottom of the screen, and have Vi Domina aim the Rocket Launcher at the Dummies to keep them hostile. I destroy them completely.

Zarax and Errol advance to their 19th levels. Zarax continues to add to Piety and Dexterity. Errol adds to Piety and Speed. He'll advance his speed to 45, just enough for his Oberon's Greaves to bring it to 55.

Covert Ops Training

Now I head over to 'Covert Ops Training' and speak to Sergeant Rubble again. The task is pretty simple, defeat five monsters and bring back each of the nearby five Flags. The monsters are a Morax, a Deathsting Apus, a Swallower, a Flint Golem, and a Djinn. They should be pretty easy monsters on their own for any party that manages to make it here.

Of particular interest is the Djinn, since it leaves behind the Djinn Eye which Antone can combine with Tanto Wasp Wings and a Plumed Serpent Feather to create the Featherweight Armor.

Once I'm done here, I report back to Sergeant Rubble. I am now to report back to Sergeant Balbrak for another mission.

Umpani-Mook Alliance

I head back to the elevator in the southwest corner of the Upper Caves in order to return to the Mount Gigas Caves.

Mount Gigas Caves

That brings me to the elevator marked "To Upper Caves" on the map of the Mount Gigas Caves. I go north and west to take the elevator at the point marked "To Umpani Camp".

Umpani Camp

Now I speak to Sergeant Balbrak at the point marked "Recruitment" on the map of the Umpani Camp. His next mission is fairly straight forward. Deliver a Umpani-Mook Alliance Letter to Screg the Mook in Arnika, and then report back to Balbrak.

But first I have something else to do.

Dulcimer of Mending

Now I return to the Upper Caves.

Mount Gigas Upper Caves

This time I make for the spot marked "Humpawhammer". It's a teleporter which I step through.

Arnika Road

It brings me to the spot marked "Umpani House". I search through it, and find a Dulcimer of Mending. My Bard now has Heal All as an option, and replaces the Piercing Pipes he had with it in his inventory. This adds a whole new layer of utility for Errol, who can pick a damaged party up over and over and over again with the Dulcimer. This allows Vi Domina and Rothgar and Chun-Li to often use their Divine Mana for other spells. And if Errol runs low on stamina, it only requires 14 Water Mana to pick him back up.

I leave the house and end up in a massive fight against numerous Higardi Highwaymen and plants. I manage to outlast them, especially with a Toxic Cloud from Terra and a Firestorm from Chun-Li.

Both characters advance to their 17th level. Terra takes Summon Elemental, so she has that option too. Chun-Li takes Lifesteal, which scores massive damage against a single target and can replenish her own Hit Points. I leave south along the road, and that's where this video ends.

I don't show it in the video, but I travel along the Arnika-Tyrnton road, make a stopover in Arnika, and then head for Trynton. It amounts to doing things I've done before, killing low-level monsters, selling off excess loot to Antone, practicing Mind Read on him, so there's nothing really new to show.

I'm now heading for the Rattkin Tree.
