NORTHERN WILDERNESS

Northern Wilderness

Bats

I go north from where I have first entered the Northern Wilderness. I run into 6 Vampire Bats and 9 Twilight Bats. I'm higher level now, so the risk of level drain from the Vampire Bats is much less, especially with three of my characters having mastered the Iron Will skill. I therefore have no issue with letting them surround me. Also, now that I've done a lot of skill training in weapons and magic and so on, I now incorporate things like scrolls and invokable items into my battles.

Crimson Poppies and Greater Seekers

I continue northeast and fight three Greater Seekers. Even at higher levels I have to be careful with them, as their spit attacks can score significant damage. Chun-Li needed to cast Heal Wounds on herself when she was reduced to about a quarter of her hit points.

I continue along the north edge of the Wilderness and kill several Crimson Poppies. I then go east and kill another trio of Greater Seekers.

Rothgar and Ryu now have enough xp to advance to their 17th levels. Ryu takes Summon Elemental, so he also has that as an option.

Rothgar takes Purify Air, which is often needed when the party gets hit with spells like Toxic Cloud, Draining Cloud, Acid Bomb and Firestorm.

Adamantium Slime in the Lake

I head for the lake in the northeast corner of the Wilderness. It will often have an Emerald Slime or two for lower-level parties. In my case it has a pair of Emerald Slimes, and an Adamantium Slime.

An Adamantium Slime can knock party members unconscious. It also enjoys damage reduction such that pretty much any blow against it will only score single-digit damage against it. And it typically 300 to 400 hit points. It can once in a while use a draining cloud that reduces Stamina for all party members.

I make a point of taking out the Emerald Slimes first, as they're much easier to kill. It turns out that Ryu, Terra and RFS-81 can tank it pretty well. So it's a matter of gradually whittling it down, and once in a while casting Stamina on an individual party member who needs it, or casting Rest All when the party is collectively running short on Stamina.

The little island in the middle of the lake includes some items, including a Book of Frost which Chun-Li uses to inscribe the Frost spell. For what that's worth at this point.

Hogar Cave

Now I go south to the "Hogar Cave", where I fight and kill a Battering Hogar.

One of the items in the cave is a Banshee's Howl, which can be used for the Hex spell without limit. It's a potentially useful interim instrument for Errol, although he'll find better down the road.

I also find a spellbook for Return to Portal, which Vi Domina inscribes. She'll be able to use the spell to train her Air Magic skill later on.

Rogue Camp

In the northwest portion of the Camp are ruins wherein are camped a Rogue Leader, and some Higardi Highwaymen. I am by now high level enough that this fight is rather easy and routine.

To the Northern Wilderness Retro Dungeon

Now it is time to unlock the way to the Northern Wilderness Retro Dungeon. Note the 6 spots on the map marked 'r'. These signify trees that have runes on their sides. Click once on each rune.

Now you need to find the stone that is marked by 'ss'. Take a Short Staff from your inventory, and click on the stone with it. This will reveal the Fairie Ring that leads to the Northern Wilderness Retro Dungeon.

I rest up, but get interrupted by three Greater Seekers and five Stalker Seekers. I manage to outlast them with the help of a Toxic Cloud spell from Terra, and a Firestorm spell from Chun-Li. I rest up without interruption the next time, put my buffs back up, and then step into the Faerie Ring.
