OLD MINE TUNNELS

The Swamp

Oozites

I start off at the entrance on the west side of the entrance to the Swamp. I go east and have the first of what will be numerous occurrences, a Savant Orb leading other Savant androids and demanding the return of the Astral Dominae. These fights won't be difficult for higher-level parties. Some nearby Oozites get drawn into the fight as well. Oozites are swamp golems that can knock unconscious, nauseate or blind party members. But likewise they shouldn't be difficult for higher level parties.

I continue east and fight other monsters that I've encountered before, like Flesheater Slimes and Helligators. Remember, Insanity from Siren's Wail can do wonders by dividing the Helligators against each other and having them use their highly damaging attacks against each other.

I continue east and defeat another group of Oozites.

Dank Beetles

I continue east and my next battle is against several Dank Beetles. They're high-level beetles that can cause disease, nausea and poison with their attacks. But I manage to kill them off without any of that happening.

Rothgar takes Lightning on his 18th level-up. It increases the Fire Mana he'll get with each level-up, and provide him with an offensive option if I see the need for it.

Ryu takes Firestorm on his 18th level-up. Things will enventually play out as Chun-Li may cast Death Cloud in future battles (when she gets it) while Ryu casts Firestorm in the same round. Or both could do a doubleshot of Firestorm against opponents vulnerable to fire damage.

Dreadmares

I follow other monster groups to kill them off for experience.

I eventually encounter a group of Dreadmares, black unicorns that can cast spells. They initially retreat when I'm fighting a group of Flesheater Slimes as well, so I take care of that battle first.

Dreadmares also have a rearing attack that can cause insanity, fear or possession to party members. And I have two party members go insane, and Chun-Li get possessed, as I'm running up to them.

It is imperative to cast Soul Shield in battles with these monsters, which I manage to do once I've closed the distance. Elemental Shield to protect against other spells is helpful too. It becomes easier to cut them down once those protections are in place. And I'm now squarely in the southwest corner of the Swamp.

2nd Amulet of Healing

Now I go east until I reach Crock's hut.

I reload until he has an Amulet of Healing (+3 AC, +1 Hit Points) in his inventory, which I now buy for Rothgar.

I also sell off my excess loot, purchase any special ammunition (e.g. Hunter Quarrels, Precision Arrows, Impaling Stones) in his inventory, and purchase a Book of Winds which Rothgar inscribes to acquire the Whirlwind spell.

Bayjin Crash Site

I go north across the bridge, fighting Oozites and a Queen Ant along the way.

There's a spot along the north shore, west of the place marked 'Bayjin', where you can spot fragments of a crashed ship.

I have Ryu cast Detect Secrets, and find a Book of Banishment. Chun-Li inscribes it to acquire the Banishment spell.

I go east a bit and defeat several Rynjin Thralls. Remember that they can use their martial arts at extended range, so you often need to walk up to them a little to bring them within range of your own weapons.

Rynjin Hill

I go east a little and fight a few more Dank Beetles.

Now I go up a hill north of the 'Huts', and fight a hordes of Rynjin Sentries led by a Rynjin Empath and a Rynjin Overseer. I show a standard methodology for them. Vi Domina puts up Soul Shield while Terra puts up Elemental Shield. Chun-Li puts both a Firestorm and a Toxic Cloud over them as they close in. Rynjin are vulnerable to fire so a Firestorm is always good. And Toxic Cloud helps by scoring continuous damage over several rounds and often putting some of them unconscious to boot. Chun-Li also summons an Elemental when she gets a chance.

Brain Borers

I continue east past the 'Huts', and run into a new monster, beetles called Brain Borers. They can cause insanity with their attacks, but are otherwise not very dangerous.

I keep going east until I reach the entrance to the Old Mine Tunnels, rest up and buff up.

Old Mine Tunnels

Pool by the Tunnels

I arrive at the north entrance to the Old Mine Tunnels. I follow the valley southwards, and end up fighting a lot of Tanto Wasps who by now are much easier.

I arrive at the pool near where I first found RFS-81, and fight more Tanto Wasps and now four Dreadmares as well. I keep Soul Shield and Elemental Shield in place for the duration of the fight.

I afterwards fight Tiger Mosquitoes and Tse Tse Flies. The latter are so low in Hit Points that Chun-Li just blows them away outright with a Fireball. RFS-81 advances to his 18th level.

Note that there are two passageways leading upwards. One to the left that is quite steep, and one to the right. I take the passage to the right, which leads up to a pool. Ryu casts Detect Secrets when I reach the pool, and I find another Amulet of Healing (+3 armor class, +1 health regeneration, +50% divine resistance). Errol wears it to enhance his durability as the rearguard offtank.

Tantris T'Rang

Now I come back, and start up the steep trail to the left. At the top, at the spot marked 'P', is a pressure plate. If you try to go over it, you'll get squashed by a boulder.

Instead, I go a little left of the pressure plate, to a spot marked 'S'. There I click on a rock that acts like a switch that will open a nearby wall.

I soon find button that opens the way around the pressure plate. inside the cave is a T'Rang Samurai, Tantris T'Rang, who can be recruited into the party. But I already have a Samurai in the party. And like most NPCs besides RFS-81 and Vi Domina, he's severely limited in the areas he's willing to travel to.

I travel through the cave to end up on the other side of the pressure plate, and end up having to fight more Tanto Wasps.

Silent Lyres

A little ways westward from the pressure plate is a spot marked 'SL', where I find a Silent Lyre (Silence without limit for a Bard). Errol replaces the now dated Poet's Lute with it.

If you don't have a Venom Sac just yet, and still want to make the Steelhide Breastplate, there will always be three Poison Seekers nearby in a set encounter.

Now a little more to the west is the Mine Cart, inside the shack. Just outside the shack itself is a Hose, which is a component for the Gadget device called the Water Cannon, which can replicate the Tsunami spell.

I enter the shack itself, and in one corner is a series of switches. At around 3:26 of the video, I show one series of switch settings that will bring me to a new place where a bunch of items lie around. I have to kill a couple of Flying Snakes first. Among the items will be another Silent Lyre.

I follow the trail, and hit the switch I find to start a landslide of sorts so that I can crawl down and return to the Mine Cart.

Silver Nugget

I again set the switches, as shown at the start of the video, so that I can take the cart down a different path.

Once the cart lets me off, I find a Giant Silver Nugget. It weighs 250 pounds, so it will likely encumber the party as a whole while you're carrying it. There are two potential uses for it. One is that it is an ingredient for the Mirror Armor. The other use is that it can be sold in Arnika for a lot of gold.

I do intend to make the Mirror Armor for Zarax. But I also don't want to lug all 250 pounds of the Nuggest until I finally reach the merchant who can make the armor. So I have Chun-Li set a portal right next to the Silver Nuggest, so that I can quickly retrieve it and minimize the time to carry it when I do need it.

In the meantime, the path ahead leads to a different part of Lower Marten's Bluff.
