Who am I
you ask? Well, let's start with a little professional history. First,
I am currently 40 years old with a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the
University of California at San Diego, and an M.S. in Electrical and Electronic
Engineering from the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis
Obispo. I work for a living as a software engineer on embedded real time
systems, which are essentially computers embedded in some kind of device
that respond in real time to external data gathered by sensors.
Now for the computer gaming history. The first computer game I played
was Zork II on my folks' brand spankin' new Apple ][e. Loved those text
adventures; played quite a few of 'em too. The first CRPG I played was
Wizardry, once again on that Apple computer and that was a blast. Over
the years, I've played mostly RPG and Adventure games with a smattering
of other things like real time strategy, fighter jet sims and sim games
like Sim City and Afterlife. My favorites have been the Adventure games
published by Sierra (King's Quest, Quest for Glory, Space Quest) and Lucas
Arts (Sam 'n Max, Indiana Jones, Monkey Island), the Ultima RPGs (I've
played 3 through 8 for sure; can't remember 1 or 2) and of course the
Infinity Engine games (BG1 and 2, IWD). I've never really gotten into
the FPS games; the last one I played was Wolfenstein 3D (oh that reminds
me - I played the original Wolfenstein on my Apple as well). These days,
now that I work for a living and have less free time on my hands, I generally
buy games from game companies I've had success with, or that get great
reviews and look like my kind of game.
And finally Sorcerer's Place history. I came lurking to Sorcerer's Place
when I bought Icewind Dale after it had just arrived on the store shelves.
I like reading about other people's experiences with a game I'm playing,
mainly out of curiosity, to see if I was missing out on anything as I
passed through the various stages of the game. I pretty much lurked all
the way through IWD, content to just read and not contribute; but there
were many times where I itched to interject a comment here or a tip there.
I came back again to Sorcerer's Place with the release of BG2, and on
a fateful October morning the itch to contribute won me over; and the
rest as they say is history (and well documented on the Sorcerer's Place
message boards :) ).
Well that's about it for me. I look forward to serving you fine people
as your moderator on the Sorcerer's
Place message boards. Farewell.
