Does speed matter which weapon is in what hand?

    If my barbarian has a sword that is fast attack speed and another sword that's very fast attack speed, does it matter which one is in what hand as far as getting the best attack speed out of them? Like if I put the fast one in my main hand will it get a little faster because the very fast one is in my off hand?

    The game simply alternates between which weapon strikes. It will strike at the speed and with the damage of whichever weapon you are hitting with.
    Generally you want your fastest weapon in your main hand, as some skills (whirlwind for example) determine their speed off the primary hand's weapon speed.

    Also, please remember that weapon speed is not a straight line continuum, it is a series of plateaus (of FPS) where you might not necessarily be any better of with "very fast" vs. "fast" weapons if they are both missing the next breakpoint. Do a google search for diablo 2 weapon speed and you will see what I mean.

    Yeah, this is a good tip actually - you want to make sure you have enough attack speed to hit the next fps breakpoint.
    http://diablo3.ingame.de/diablo-2/calculatoren/angriffsgeschwindigkeit/?lang=en is a pretty good one to use.

    Breakpoints come in to play for increased attack speed (IAS), faster block rate (FBR), Faster Cast Rate (FCR) and Faster Hit Recovery (FHR).
    Basically, you need to get enough of a bonus to each to hit the next breakpoint, each breakpoint shaving off 1 frame that the animation takes less tome to complete.

    Let's say that you have 50% faster attack speed, giving you an attack animation lasting 13 frames, and that 70% would get you to an animation time of 12 frames.
    In that scenario, it wouldn't be useful to equip a weapon that only gave you 10% more increased attack sped, since you'd stil be stuck in the 13 FPS breakpoint.

    There's a lot of factors that influenced these values however, which is why it's important to use a calculator.
