Hi. I was wondering why this was happening. I've tried both Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate 1 Classic and for both, it either said some techno-babble about programmer lines (usually line 65536) and/or that there were no supported video modes. I've already tried running Compatibility Mode for XP SP3 and 16-bit color mode both together and separate, along with running it as admin without any compatibilities, all to no avail. For Icewind Dale, I have a separate Linux Mint install, but for Baldur's Gate, since it comes from GOG, I am unable to install, even though it offers a Linux shell command version. So, no Baldur's Gate on Linux for me. Any help (for either of these issues) would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: So, now Icewind Dale is jalting on loading the game world up if I roll characters when I'm on Linux Mint.

For the GOG versions you can check their forums or file a support ticket and they'll sort you out -- you can request a refund otherwise. I don't have any experience with running games in Linux, but @Keneth might have some ideas.

I think at this point, trying to run the originals on Win10 is kinda pointless. The games are simply too old to be run natively without issues.

If you don't wish to buy the EE versions, I would highly recommend replacing the default engine with GemRB, which can run the whole BG saga on just about any OS (including Mint).

Alternatively, a good option for legacy games is to run WinXP in a virtual machine and run the games in there.

I've never tried running the vanilla games from GOG on Linux, so I doubt I'd be much help in troubleshooting them.

I fixed the issue with Linux Mint in Icewind Dale with a rather odd workaround. I first used a pre-made character and then used the character arbitration to make the party I wanted. And I got lgogdownloader, a shell program that allows me to install games off of GOG. And then, it was just a matter of running the shell to install. Thank you for your help and I bid you adieu.

Good to hear you fixed your issue, and thanks for the update - the info can come in handy if anyone ever googles this thread looking for a solution to the same problem. :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll try to run it on my dual booted Ubuntu and see. If it fails then I just set up a VM with XP.
