It seems to me that Mind Blank protects against all spells that require a Will save. Is that true?

If it is, it would mean that you could gain a lot of stat points by dumping wisdom and just using Mind Blank instead. The duration is one day, which should be two rest periods.

    Disadvantages:
Need to recast every time a character gets dispelled or res'ed
    You might forget to recast
    Less horrid wiltings per day

Yeah. It protects you from practically all enchantment spells.

But it is an 8th level spell JT. What will you do till then?

In normal... not a good strategy.

In HoF, how many will saves do you have to make in the first two acts? Probably not many, and by then you should be able to cast mind blank.

You mean in Targos and till the Bridge fight?

Almost all shamen try casting hold person. Unfortunately few cast Charm Person till you try taking over the Horde Fortress. So solo guys specially get clobbered.

Daamn those were harsh times)) "RTFM" - and that's all you're gonna get, dude! Remembering those 5-CD baldur's gate playthroughs, reading about a Ring of Wizardry near the Friendly Arm Inn, I cannot fathom it these days, where you can just click and choose a guide in Dota 2 out of 100500 available ones.

Those were the times. Our times)

I'm know for a fact that Gamefaqs.com was around years before Baldur's Gate I came out.
Now if you want to talk about the days when you couldn't just get on the internet and download an FAQ, let's talk about King's Quest, Ultima, or Might and Magic. I recall being stuck for a while at Might and Magic II. I recall having to resort to calling Sierra's 900 number after a month of frustration as I couldn't figure out how to get past the cliffs in King's Quest III and the hint book I bought didn't help since it wasn't an official puzzle. (Turned out that what looked like a path wasn't due to poor graphics of the day and I needed a different route. ) Of course I got in trouble with my parents for ringing up the phone bill (I wasn't even a teenager yet).
Let's talk about Dungeon Master, one of the greatest cRPGS ever made, grandfather to Eye of the Beholder as it predates EoB by about 3 years.
I recall having to puzzle through the Gameboy version of Legend of Zelda with no help from the nascent WWW that I would not get access to for at least another year.
I recall taking a while to figure out Bard's Tale and I never did solve that one magic mouth in the castle that talks about "...The One God lays a strength on friendly _" until I found an FAQ on gamefaqs.com 5-10 years later (more than 5, less than 10, can't recall for sure). Fortunately not answering correctly just cost you a neigh-useless (by that point in the game, if it had been in the first dungeon or even early in the second that would be a different story, but by the time you get to the second level of the second dungeon it shouldn't be much use) treasure.

Imagine something like Final Fantasy IIIUS/6J without a guide to show you all those hidden treasures. How many people would have figured out it was better not to open the chests in the passage to South Figero until your second time through? Heck even the NES games like Crystalis or the first Final Fantasy were challenging.

Baldur's Gate is too modern to be those days. Gamefaqs, and GameBanshee were around by then, along with the now-defunct IGN website and a few others now defunct.

Bah, you whippersnappers and your new fangled internet crap. In my day, we played Adventure on a terminal with a box of paper and we were happy that it moved along at 110 baud. Or we played Trek on the same terminals.

Feh, a pox on you and your GameBanshee (although there was one illusory wall in Dungeon Master somewhere down on the sixth or so level that kept me from progressing until I just bit the bullet and literally tried to crash into every wall there was).

GameBanshee didn't come along until a year after Sorcerer's Place, actually. No historical revision when I remember posting about it 17 years ago in the news. ;)

I think you mean the 9th level (some call it the 8th as they count the Hall of Champions as level 0 after the game code), with the clue "When is rock not rock?" on the wall.
IIRC it is the only illusory wall that will actually stop you from progressing in the game, the rest just conceal treasure caches or buttons to reveal the same.
Back in the day I had the same problem and found the illusionary wall by accidentally hitting the wrong direction key when going around and trying to tap all the walls looking for a hidden button.
I didn't find any other such walls for a while afterwards, and did not find all of them until I was given the hint book years later when a friend's Apple IIGS broke and he moved on to other platforms.

As for Game Banshee, I must be confusing it with a different gaming site. Maybe I was thinking of RPGamer or something similarly named?
