I used a potion of speed on Immy and got 2 potions and a gem off him, then no more items for your cat purse skills. I wanted those damn gloves! BASTARDS :( I wonder If you can still kill him? :)

Which meeting is this and what gloves are you talking about ?
if i recall correctly the first time you meet tazok is in the bandit camp? (only if you fake join them and get one of the bandit groups to take you there, not if you get the location of tranzig.)

ah yeah - they made him unkjillable in that encounter in the enhanced edition of the game.
But, they did place a pair of gauntlets of weapon expertise in one of the chests inside the camp (inside Tazok's tent where youy'll find his documents.) that was not previously there in the vanilla game. So in the end you don't miss out on the item.

In the original game, I always like to chug an oil of speed and run around shooting arrows of biting or piercing at him while he tries to talk to you. Once he goes down, you get a potion or two, plate armor (IIRC), and those nice gauntlets. Plus the satisfaction and EXP for killing him.

But yeah, in the EE version, I can't kill him. No matter, because as was mentioned, they put those gauntlets inside a container in his tent.

There are a fair number of those gloves in the game, aren't there. At least in Tutu I have one before entering BG, and there are another two in the city itself. And that's without killing Tazok, even.

As far as i know there are only two gauntlets of weapon expertise - one in the bandit camp, and the other is worn by Meilum on the Firewine ruins map.
The ones in Baldur's gate you mention are probably the gauntlets of weapon skill, which are the weaker counterparts - one of them is dropped by the ogre that attacks you in the blushing mermaid, the other is sitting in a crate close to the temple of the bitch queen at the docks.
The gauntlets of weapon expertise give +1 ThAC0 and +2 damage, the gauntlets of weapon skill only give +1 to ThAC0.

Also, one of the gauntlets of weapon skill that can be found in Baldur's gate is actually a quest item : you can return them to Noralee, an npc inside the warehouse on the east side of the docks, for 1000 XP and either 45 GP or two potions of infravision, depending on your NPC reaction.
If you have a bad NPC reaction to begin with, she might not offer the quest at all, though the gauntlets of weapon skill will still be there to be found

    henkie,

I can recall one set you get if you kill Meilum in the NE part of Firewine Bridge, but I can't recall where the others are besides Tazok's. I'm fairly sure I usually end up with three pairs, though.

I guess I got them mixed up, then. And I don't think I ever found either of the weapon expertise gauntlets, to be honest. I never got Tazok either, though I've explored the Firewine bridge several times and have apparently missed the gauntlets everytime. Or maybe I just didn't attack Meilum and ignored him.

For me only the gauntlets of extraordinary specialisation actually stick as being a must-have to get (but that's BG2).

Yeah, meilum is standing in a bit of an awkward location o na ledge to the north of the firewine ruins entrance, way over on the east edge of the map, so it's pretty easy to miss him.
I feel like the gloves are definitely worth picking up for your PC if you (s)he's a melee character - you'll usually have hihg enough stats to not need the gauntlets of giants strength/dexterity, and there's not really any other useful glove options to be had.
Of course, for ranged characters i'd make a beeline for the bracers of archery instead.

If I go to the Firewine bridge, I will find Meilum, but since he's not actively hostile, I normally don't bother with him.

Eh, i dislike his self proclaimed 'best fighter in the realm' pompous ass and the way he gets insulted when you claim you've never heard of him.
So i usually insult him some more and get him to attack me so i can show him how wrong he is :D
