[IMG] Has anyone every tried going through the game with a party of all Mages??? It would definitely be a tough start and with the big battles you wouldn't have anyone to take the blows for you. You could summon monsters to protect the frontal assalts, but in large battles some things always seem to get through!

    Just curious.

[IMG] A all Mage party would really rock at higher levels. With some stoneskins, mirror images and Ghost shields up you would be free to rain damage down on the enemy. The hard part would be getting to that point. At low levels I could see the party getting ripped up real quick. Maybe start with some fighters to take the heat and after a few levels let them die and bring in some new mages now that you have 3 or 4 mages already at a reasonable level. Just a thought. Good Luck!

You could always start with an all human fighter party, and dual-them at the level of your choice.

That way, you'd make it through the lower levels more easily, and also have more hit points for when you just can't avoid toe-to-toe conflicts. Lastly, you'd be able to use more of the magic items in the game, such as bows, x-bows, and swords, which an all-mage party would have no use for (and there aren't really enough mage weapons to go around).

The only problem I see with an all-mage party is that I found it tough to get enough scrolls for just two mages (well one mage and a bard). 4-6 mages would probably have to each specialize in different magic, so they each have their own role during a battle.

I was thinking that an all-thief party would be interesting. Not great fighters, but having 6 dudes popping out've the shadows to backstab at 4 or 5 times damage would certainly tilt battles in your favor. :)

The all Thief Party would be interesting also. By at high levels, theives are pretty much the same as at low levels. You wouldn't ever become the all powerful group that would develope from six mages working together. Just think if the Symbul, Elminster, Laeral, Khelbun, Alustriel and some other powerful wizard all traveled together! Granted, they are all high level than you can attain in this game!

The all-magic approach certainly works, but I'd throw in 2 clerics for some different spells and armor. Though they can't really fight well, they can take blows quite well.
Also, how about a part of six fighter/mages multiclass?

Well, when I said an all-thief party, I didn't mean all single-classed thieves. I'd definately have fighter/thieves, thief/clerics, and mage/thieves... just that everybody would have thief abilities, and thus the ability to hide in shadows to get the drop on a group of monsters.

Consider, for instance, how useful this would be in the Temple section of Dragon's Eye. Even once the priests came after you, you could just duck into a room, go into stealth mode, and scout the place out to kill the most lethal enemies one at a time.

Not to say a bunch of powerful mages wouldn't rock the house, but I'm just considering alternate ideas. :)
