Two questions really. One is how to get Belhifet from "Nearly dead" to "dead". He seems to be permanently stuck on the former, to my party's serious disadvantage. (I ran a search and found some posts, but no one seems to have given this question a clear answer--even Moonbow skims it in his walkthrough. Is it that easy?)

Two is how to disarm the traps in the final chamber. My thief drank two potions of Perception, raising her Disarm skill to 156, and still couldn't do it. Are the traps un-disarmable?

I believe those traps are not disarmable.

As for killing Belhifet, if you are whooping large amounts of damage on him, and he doesnt change from nearly dead, then that might be a bug. Try installing a patch on the game.

Thanks, Takara, I did finally manage it. One poster suggested retreating to the lower left corner of the screen, and staying there. This worked. Your buffs aren't disspelled, and Belhifet keeps coming to you. It got a little thin, but I killed him.

IIRC you get dispelled as soon as the battle starts, so take one char and run through the rest of the traps with him, while fleeing with your party (if you have a party) to southwest. Leave 1 guy near the golems though, so they use their cloud attack at the center.
Kill the golems first so less distraction while battling with Belhifet himself. Potions of speed/haste, potions of *foo* strength, Fire resistance, and then smack the hell out of him.
Worked for me at least (played solo 4 times).

I had my party split up and one of them run in circles to keep the golems busy. The rest dealt with Belhifet somehow, although IIRC two died in the process, but not permanently. Moderately min-maxed fighter types with the right gear and high level after TotL are able to defeat him single-handedly. The traps are not meant to be disarmed, I think.

This can't kill bug happened to me in IWD and also in BG2. My friend had it happen in IWD2. It must be an unfortunate bug that if you do boatloads of damage to some enemies they simply refuse to die...

It might be that if you chase Belhifet, which I did several times, he sticks on "nearly dead", or he regenerates, or I was just unlucky. Letting him come to me certainly worked better.

Funny... I had a Mace of Disruption and got lucky... Belhifet fell within 3 hits.

I have had a similar bug. Where he stuck to "near death" and kept teleporting around on the map. After my group camped in the middle (he only teleported around in circles around) and my dwarf fighter kept running after him with hes axe for nearly an hour, i concluded it was a bug and gave up. Loaded up again for a new tru and it worked as normal.

Btw, best shot i have heard of ever was a buddy from army, that entered last fight, the first thing he did was to cast chromatic orb on the fiend, and it died. He never got close enough to melee.

I don't recal the Magic resistance and savingthrws for that guy, but getting insta'gibb with one chromatic orb got to be the luckies sod i have ever seen.

Indeed, especially since with the pathced version, Chromatic Orb is capped to _just_ paralyze :bad:

In our party (with 3 players on a LAN), I had my mage take care of Belhifet with a few orbs, magic missiles and scorches and he died rather quickly... My cleric followed him and healed him when necessary...

The two other guys (with each also 2 characters) took care of the golems...

I believe it took three times of trying, and then we got through... Easy Peasy...
