Just recently I came accross BG and IW games and personaly I think they rock. I started with BG2 and am still playing it. Seeing how much I like it I started ordering rest of the BioWare games: BG1, IW 1&2 and so on. And browsing around the site I saw that there is a mod that makes BG1 play with BG2 engine (BGtutu I believe it is called).

So naturaly I have to ask if same thing is possible with IW1 :) And perhaps Planescape Torment :)

No idea how it works and probably there is no way that can be done but no harm in asking I hope :)

    Thank you for your time!

I have not seen any such mods and while I suppose it would be possible it would probably be a lot of work to do it.

There was a project to mod BG2's content into Icewind Dale 2's engine ( Icewind Gate II ) - it made it to the beta testing phase but the authors called it quits at that point. I don't know if it is playable but my guess would be that there are still a lot of bugs.

Hmmm no idea on how all those things work but at least in theory it should work right?

And I didn't mean D&D rules and such, only graphics
    :)

If you get Heart of Winter, the expansion for IWD1, you can play the game in higher resolution, and that makes it pretty good, even compared to IWD2 :D

    Hmmm :) That sounds promising...
So only game left with "low" res is poor Planescape...
Wonder how did they "upgrade" the graphics engine... I'll try and do some reading on BGTutu stuff...

IWD I has much the better plot line of the IWD games. Real momentum. IWD II is okay, and has a great character generation system that makes you want to try party after party to see how they'll play, but after doing both, I think # I is the better game.

"Poor Planescape"; but if you're into role-playing, it's the best of the lot. Only BG II approaches it in quality.

I've heard so much about Planescape really, and by poor I meant that it's only of the bunch that is still on 640x480 with no option of upping the resolution. Absolutely no disrespect :)

"Icewind Gate 2" was using Weidu to port over all the content from baldurs gate 2 into the icewind dale 2 game, basically palying baldurs gate 2 inside icewind dale 2. It made beta, and finally became open beta. Yes it stil has lots of bugs, but is generally playable, as long as you check the forums for "manual fixes" to a few minor details, such as joining npc's and how to get back from the irenicus dreams. I still hope someone finish that project, or make a IWD1 -> iwd2 mod, it would rock.

Well I've done some reading on Weidu stuff (program itself) and as far as I can see it handles the script part of the game.

But how did they transfer all the graphics? Backgrounds and characters...

You could ask at the BG1tutu forums, they use the same idea/method as icewind gate 2 did/do. I am not a "coder" so i cannot ansver you. but the advantage of doing iwd1 -> iwd2 instead of the bg2 -> iwd2 is that the iwd2 engine should have everything iwd1 did and more, unlike the very different engines of bg2 and iwd2 (Yes both originally come from the BG1 version of infinity, but they have been modified in different directions after that.)
