I am almost at my max level in BG1 and upon reaching my max level I will complete all the chapters in a matter of a day or two.

When I convert my character into BG2 I am wondering what weapons prof. I should learn and why?

I do know I am going to take at least one slot in axes for Azuredge (edited).

Probably katana for Celestal Fury, but long swords are more vestitile and fun IMHO. I like being able to switch weapons for different situations.

What about staves? Staff of striking, staff of the Magi (excellent for a F/M/T), and staff of the Ram

    RazorEdge? What weapon is that?

I would say staff of the magi too, and then definately staff of the ram when you get it, that makes for insane amounts of backstab damage! Oh, and by the way, mislead = backstabbing galore. ;)
Maces could also prolly be a good idea.

Perhaps Silver Knight meant Azuredge? The axe that can be bought in the CC.

Don't forget flails and warhammers (you can't backstab all the time).

All my thieves get katanas. The best deal, I think. Perhaps Azuredge or Mace of Disruption to deal with the undead, if you don't have anyone else to wield those, but that's it.

The best backstabbing weapons are staves, and it allows you to easily switch to a bow, if you'd like.

I don't really backstab alot, but I might just start to since you can cause quite a bit of damage. I am just asking what weapon prof. would I need for the weapons that are +6 in ToB.

    Staff :D
IIRC The (upgraded) Staff of the Ram is +6, and it's the most damaging backsmacking weapon there is.

    Dakkon's Zerth Blade!

There are LOTS of good katanas in the game. I'd start with those and move on to the rest later.

    Katanas, Dual Wield.

These form your base 4-5 profs at start-up. From there it's your choice, but bear in mind that the Axe of Unyielding doesn't turn up for a while, and you'll have plenty of profs to allocate before then. In the interim, go for either Bows, Longswords, Shortswords or Scimitars. Of course, there's the FoA too, but I'm generally not a fan of non-backstabbing weapons with an FMT. You don't "need" any particular weapon combo to actually finish the game.

Katanas look cool, though, and are thus essential. Similarly, use SK to change your appearance to mage, and DL Inoshiro's Improved Looking Robes of Vecna for that authentic "I'm a Sith!" look. :D
