What good equipment is out there for a Beast Master?

I'm not sure if this post is in the right place to post this either? Should it be here or in the BGEE forums instead?

Maybe both? I'm wondering about equipment for both BGEE and BG2EE?

Since it's for both games the BG2:EE forum is a good choice.

I would say daggers and bows for BG1. The Dagger of Venom is a fantastic and you will find high damage daggers in SOD as well. This proficiency will remain useful into BG2 with powerful weapons like Firetooth.

You have plenty of options in BG2, so it's more about preference. Spears are a good RP choice methinks, if not the most powergamey. But if you're playing a Beast Master, surely that's not a concern.

Beastmasters are weird in that they cannot use any metal weapons - limiting them to using only clubs, quarterstaves, crossbows, longbows, shortbows, darts and slings.
So spears and daggers are right out the window - none of these weapons besides bows will be usable.

In BG1, you're probably going to get the most use out of bows - longbows will give you the best damage output in BG1, though shortbows are the far better choice in BG2.
You should get enough proficiency points to put points in both, since not a lot of other useful options are around.
Consider making your character an Elf, for the +1 ThAC0 bonus they get with bows.

As far as melee weapons go Clubs are notoriously underwhelming in both games, even with the few new additions in the enhanced edition, so your only other option and the go-to melee weapon of choice is the quarterstaff. (But if you really feel like it , i suppose you can try dual wielding clubs just so you get some use out of the 2 free pips in two-weapon wielding a ranger gets :p)

In BG1 you can pick up your best-in-slot melee weapon relatively early : you can buy Aule's Staff +3 from the innkeeper in ulgoth's beard.
As far as bows go, grabbing a composite bow from winthrop early on in candlekeep really helps a lot, giving a solid +2 damage and +1 ThAC0.
Buy the Composite longbow +1 from the tavernkeeper at Feldepost's inn as soon as you make your way to Beregost - as you progress the story you'll eventually be able to pick up the Long Bow of Marksmanship at the bandit camp.

Ah, forgot about that unique restriction. Just another reason BM was such an underpowered kit.
