    @ everyone

Daystar has its Thaco raised by 2 (so +4) to general evil (LE, NE, CE) folk, but does even more damage to undead folk (who I believe are always evil).

I love Daystar! Not only does it job Kangaxx, but it is awsome in Bodhi's lair! Sunray! bam! 1046 damage to general vampires within the Sunray! :D

Sorry, folks, Daystar will not hurt Kangaxx's demi-lich form. Despite being +4 to hit evil creatures, it's always considered a +2 weapon when determining what it can hit; this is a known limitation of the game engine.

edit: Drizzt's +5 Defender scimitar and the Black Blade of Disaster can also hit Kangaxx.

They're +4 weapons. I killed Kangaxx with a monk once.
There's no such weapon in any game I've ever played. I guess that you're referring to Soul Reaver which is +4 and mentioned in the opening topic.

Daystar has no effect - its enchantment is only considered to be +2. I'm not sure whether its Sunray would have an effect either as Kangaxx is immune to level 1-9 spells.

Kangaxx is chaotic evil, so Carsomyr is the most effective weapon. It's still not very effective because he has 90% resistance to all physical damage. His save against the Improved Mace of Disruption is 12, so you can expect a couple of whacks from that to destroy him.

As many people pointed out, there are weapon-like spells which are effective:
Melf's Minute Meteors (considered +5 weapons)
    Mordenkainen's Sword (+4 weapon)
Black Blade Of Disaster (+5 weapon)
Seeking Sword (Priest of Helm special ability: +4 weapon).

I would not expect Phantom Blade to work - despite its +10 damage vs. undead, the spell description says that it is considered to be a +3 weapon.

Kangaxx has no elemental resistances so Melf's Minute Meteors may be one of the most effective ways of taking him down. Remember to cast Spell Immunity: Abjuration and Death Ward first. Mordenkainen's sword can hit him but is liable to get imprisoned.

    Phantom Blade doesn't work.
I've heard the Ring of Energy can hit him.
I believe Sol's Searing Orb, the priest version of Melf's Minute Meteors, should also work - but I haven't played a cleric or druid in a long time and I may be wrong about this.
Otherwise, I think you've got them all in the package. :)

Spell description of Sol's Searing Orb states that it "can be used to strike any creature" so it should work. 12D6 damage as well. Nice.

Drizzt's sword won't work. Despite the description saying that it's +5, it's actually only +3.

Unholy Reaver is found in one of the Weimer mods.

Drizzt's sword Twinkle (the Defender) is always considered a +5 weapon when determining what it can hit. It'll work.

Twinkle is actually +3, but the desciption says it's +5 because of the +2AC bonus.

Twinkle is +3 THAC0 but is treated as a +5 weapon in determining what it can hit.

We should also add the Hammer +1/+4 vs Giantkin to the list, since it's coded as a +4 weapon.

The War Hammer +1, +4 against Giantkin (found in Nalia's keep, golem room) can hurt Kangaxx. I tried this yesterday so i'm 100% sure it does. It shouldn't though, since Kangaxx can't be considered 'giantkin'. This is probably just another slip of the game engine.

[IMG] Wait! Forget my apology post!

Has anyone attacked Kangy in demi-lich format with Daystar?

I know it doesn't matter if the damage is +4. We need the *Thaco* to be +4!

I just used Shadowkeeper, and it says:

    Daystar:
Thaco: +2 bonus, +4 vs. evil creatures!

So if it doesn't work vs. Kango, it must be a bug (as someone I believe said so earlier)!

The difference between THAC0, damage bonuses and enchantment level seems to be confusing a lot of folks, so I'll try to explain.

The game engine is limited when it comes to items. You can set special THAC0 bonuses, damage, spell effects, etc. based on the target of your weapon. Daystar and the Bone Club +2/+3 vs Undead are both good examples of this. However the engine is limited in that a weapon has only a single enchantment level assigned to it, regardless of your target. The enchantment level is the sole determinant of what your weapon can hit in terms of monster protections, i.e. creatures that can only be hit by +4 weapons can only be hit by weapons with an enchantment level of at least 4. The enchantment level is purely independent of THAC0, damage, etc. This is why the Staff of the Magi and the Improved Mace of Disruption are considered +5 weapons (enchantment level of 5) despite having THAC0 bonuses of less than 5, and why Daystar (enchantment level 2) can't hit Kangaxx.

Unfortunately, the enchantment level on a weapon is a behind-the-scenes variable in the item file. You can view it with Near Infinity, but it's not visible with ShadowKeeper. Some weapons will explicitly state their enchantment levels in their description (i.e. always considered a +x weapon when determining what it can hit), while others do not, though the Baldurdash Game Text Update adds this statement to all of the weapon descriptions.

What is this about Kangaxx? I remember beating him without too much difficulties. Of course it took few reloads, but still I didn't consider him too hard. My main character specialised mage slayer or something like that and I remember using Daystar and Melf's acid arrow on him. Wasn't too long battle. He dropped quite nicely.

Perhaps his original form, but not the Demilich he changes to. IIRC, he's immune to all spells from levels 1-9, so you couldn't use Melf's Acid Arrow on him. Plus seems the consensus is Daystar can't hit him.

But is he immune to the acid?
    I don't know.

[IMG] Thanks for the info CamDawg!

    @ Sparhawk.

Kangaxx is immune to many spells, but Aarie in my party got the kill vs. his demi-lich form with Melf's Minute Meteors. That is still her best kill on her information sheet, and I'm in ToB right now. I remember the battle specifically because I had everyone clear out to the other side, except my PC (w/Carsomyr+5) and Aarie like 12 feet behind me throwing the MMM's. And she got the deathblow with it. :D

    @ Mayfairy

When you killed Kangy's demi-lich form, was the person who killed him wielding Daystar?

That's the thing with the spells. Kangaxx is immune to level 9 and lower spells, as was already posted, although MMM and the effects of Timestop are not considered to be spells because the target is yourself.

    @ Sparhawk:
It might have been Melf's minute meteors also. All I remember it had something to do with Melf, but it's so long time ago, I can't remember.

    @ Neeraj:
    Can't remember. Might have been.

If I remember correctly, there are some cleric spells that hurt him a lot. That battle might have been easier for me than it was for you, because when I killed him, I had created multiplayer party controlling all of them myself.
