[IMG] Hey guys, have a care; remember they have a strict 'no coaching on apps.' rule at ALFA. Your character app. must be all your own work.

I got accepted. Now then, I'll only have to wait for the game to come out.

Hey everybody, (and anyone else for that matter) as my knowledge of all things D&D springs *solely* from the Baldur's Gate games and Planescape Torment (and how relevant is that?) I won't even bother applying for ALFA. So-oo, my question is - what is someone who sees NWN as an introduction to P&P style roleplaying to do?

Hard to say. If you're interested in playing it online but don't wish to apply to alfa, there will be plenty of other places to do so. If you want get familiar with 3rd edition pnp, I'd go buy some of the materials. Those would bring you up to speed on the new rules while giving you a feel for the game. However, suppliments seem to give a better rp feel than core rule books like the Player's Handbook IMO.

Incidently, you could have fooled me. Jakob is one of the more lively and lifelike characters in RC, Ironbeard. I'd give your roleplaying skill 2 thumbs up :D

[IMG] Agreed, Ironbeard, don't give up before you start. ALFA has said many times that its not having an encyclopedia - like knowledge of the FR that matters, its your attitude to gaming. You are a capable roleplayer IMHO and that should come through Besides, you know your way round Silvrymoon too now!
There will be other worlds and there will be modules to exchange, but for me personaly, that would be 2nd best.

Ironbeard, never fear. The best introduction you can get to D&D is playing. You're doing that now, and Erran is one of the best teachers you'll find.

Simply pay attention to the rules, ask questions if you miss something, and have fun. It's really not that difficult, and if you have the PHB in front of you, it's easy enough to look up something you forget.

My only other suggestion is to find someone who's willing to set up some mini-campaigns in the chat for practice. Get together with 3 or 4 players, created your characters, and go fight some orcs!

Hoe long until you get the reply or how long until they accept you? Reply shall be there in 1-14 days, and you are accepted as soon as they like your appliction. :)

[IMG] The target is one month after the game ships. Lots of the dms have their parts sketched out already, just waiting for the engine.

I got accepted as well but haven't been too active over at ALFA. Pretty much I'm waiting for the game to actually come out before I get too into anything. So basically it seems like I'll be waiting forever to get into posting overly much at the ALFA boards.

You should get a reply soon or if you don't I'd recommend to try again. They do send rejection letters. Usually they give them all a quick look and the bad ones get a rejection letter in a day or so, the rest are put in for consideration and will either get a 'yes' or 'no' in a few weeks.

And don't worry if you're not familiar with the Forgotten Realms, neither am I but I still got in. A good application is what counts. (All my knowledge is from the computer games, nearly all pnp sessions have been in alternate worlds, I know the rules but not the Realms.) And no, my character isn't from the Sword Coast, even though I know that's the only area I know fairly well.

Yeah, I got in with a human bard. I put I was from Athkatla 'cause that's the only area I still remember thanks to BG2. But I don't know Forgotten Realms at all, so that mustn't be a prerequisite. My advice is just to make it clear that you're there to role-play, not just kill things blindly and level up as often as possible.

Edited to add: I just went to ALFA's site and it says they're so swamped with applications that they're "put on hold until further notice."
