I'm taking a solo wild mage through BGTutu and I just noticed something odd with the xp I'm receiving. Normally if the game says that you earned x amount of xp for killing an enemy, you get just that amount. Except I noticed that instead of gaining x amount, I appear to be getting x amount +10% and small change.

For instance, I just killed a carrion crawler for 420 xp. Except I went from 12481 to 12944, which is 463 xp, which is +10.2%. Or I went from 8079 to 12481 after killing two sirines (normally 2000 xp, but now 2201 xp).

Is there some hidden mechanic that adds bonus xp? Or is there something odd about my current game? I'm fairly sure that I haven't noticed behaviour like this before (which isn't to say it didn't happen).

FYI, I'm playing BGTutu + G3 BG2 fixpack + G3 BG2 tweakpack + BG1NPC + banter pack, so nothing special and it hasn't changed in many years, either. I believe the base is the GoG version of BG2:ToB, though I'm not entirely certain.

    /edit
Also, it appears my elven wild mage is also immune to charm, though I'm fairly certain she shouldn't be. If a sirine casts dire charm, I either get the save vs spell message, or nothing at all. As far as I'm aware, in case of nothing at all, I should be charmed, unless I'm immune to charm (it happens that way when I try to cast sleep or hold or some such and they're not affected).

They are supposed to be immune to sleep and charm, but I swear that was bugged or not implemented.

The description states that they are resistant to sleep and charm, though I don't think I've ever noticed them being immune to charm. In NWN they are more specific and it states that elves are immune to sleep and have +2 saves against charm.

I know that elves can get charmed by sirens in BG1 (original, not Tutu, Trilogy, or Enhanced). Xan, Kivan, and Coran have turned traitor when facing them. I can't recall Viconia turning traitor, but as a drow she also has magic resistance.

Charm isn't generally the same threat in BG2, and Aerie and Viconia

I'm pretty sure I've had elves get charmed as well, just not this game, it appears.

The bonus xp also seems a bit odd.

I don't know about Tutu, but i think this was always the case for normal BG2 Engine. There was a rule in PnP that when a character has a high number (i think it was 16+ or something) in his prime requisite, then he gets 10% more XP. I guess the devs thought that everyone will mix-max their stats so that he has a high prime requisite and implemented the engine to always give the 10% bonus XP.

ToBEX has a component that removes precisely this behavior. Maybe you ran with TobEX before and that is why you didn't get the 10% bonus.

Elves and Half-Elves were supposed to be resistant to charm (i think 90% and 30% respectively) but it was not implemented correctly in the vanilla game, however the BG2 Fixpack corrected this behavior. So, your character is not "immune" to char, but i guess being 90% resistant makes it quite difficult for enemies to charm him.

Was the elves being resistant to charm a fairly recent fix? Don't remember that from many earlier playthroughs.

I didn't run with ToBEX before, but I suppose in a party the bonus xp wouldn't so noticeable. It mostly becomes noticeable in a solo run and even then probably only when I pay attention to the amount of xp I gain to see when I'll level up (low levels, mostly, i.e. early BG1).

Thanks for the info, though, learn something new every day.

The BG2Fixpack ReadMe has only the above reference for the resistance. I browsed the Github repository to check older versions but it only goes up to version 9 (which also contains the fix). I then visited the G3 website but i couldn't find how to download older versions.

So the charm/sleep resistance exists at least since march 2010 when the v9 was released but it was probably implemented even before that.

I have a version 7 of the fixpack still residing on my harddrive, but I don't think it has a complete overview of the core fixes, for which it refers to the website (which only appears to have the current version (v10) on it). But my installation had this v7 until 2014, so I haven't played much with this v10 fixes.

I have a copy of version 6 on my hard drive. The only mention of "charm" in the readme is in relation to charming glaicas

I don't think it is mentioned in the readme. What i did to find out if the version contains the fix was to search the .tp2 for "cdelf" which is the start of the effect files.

There is a section that copies many effect files among which are the above cdelf ones. Much later there is also a commented "secret component" that can be used to disable these fixes.

In that case, it's in the v7 already as well, I can find the cdelfcm0-14 in the v7 setup-bg2fixpack.tp2, at least.

It is in v6 too based on what you described. The quoted stuff is present.
