[D&D 3.5e] Realms Beyond - a turn-based cRPG based on SRD 3.5e

    Until now, tiny creatures only appear as swarm units in our game. But I don't think we'll have so many tiny-sized creatures at all.
    A creature (swarm) of tiny or smaller size neither have AoOs nor the ability to flank since they have no natural reach to do so.

    Small creatures have AoO and can flank, but standard size modifiers on attack rolls still apply.

    In contrast to medium or small-sized animal companions, tiny and diminutive sized Familiars always stay with their master on the same field and therefore will have no own movement turn.
    Due to their tiny size, Familiars are not effective in physical melee anyway, so I think that's a good compromise.

    That's a coincidence, all portraits are derived from unique sources (drawings+photos).

    Obliterating goblins with fireballs is always nice. By the way, is the game gonna feature any destructible terrain? Maximized fireballs can be quite effective at making holes into buildings, and my mailman characters often disintegrated their enemies along with their homes when they were pissed off. :shake:

    We plan to use environmental objects such as barrels, bushes or other plants as fire damage dealer lasting a few rounds after inflammation. Aiming your fire spells near those objects could also increase the damage on surrounding fields. But first we want to implement and polish the regular 3.5e combat rule set until we start to add new elements.

    I wasn't aware that damaging objects was an irregular part of D&D. :p I do understand that this is a somewhat daunting proposition if you haven't designed the game with it in mind from the ground up. I was just curious because you so rarely see people take that approach. Not that there's anything wrong with playing it safe. Having lots of features isn't what makes a game great.

    You're right, it's surely part of the pen&paper rules which are much more complex by nature. Regarding the combat, we primarily use to aim at Temple Of Elemental Evil and therefore we haven't included destructible environment as must-have feature yet.

    Finally, we completed the first iteration of the combat system and recorded a HD video to demonstrate it to you.



    f YouTube starts the video in low, blurry quality, please change the resolution manually to 1080p60 or 720p60.

    Please be aware, due to the nature of alpha versions, the user interface (especially placeholder icons) and a other elements such as sounds, camera, FXs and animations are still work in progress and therefore not final.

    I would appreciate hearing your feedback and suggestions for improvements related to the combat system.
