Firetooth dagger AND crossbow?

    Ok call me slow if you wish but I've been playing for years and I'm just noticing that we have a crossbow and a dagger BOTH named Firetooth???

    Is there any particular reason for this or did they just run out of names? :p

    The dagger is Fire Tooth, the crossbow Firetooth. The crossbow was added in ToB, so it's entirely possible they forgot they had a very similarly named item already.

    The dagger I see is Firetooth +3. Not Fire Tooth +3
    Just a bit of curiosity is all :confused::p

    I mean, it's not like there's a copyright database in Faerun. When you craft a magic item and give it a generic name, chances are someone else has already thought of it before you. :shake:

    The closest thing is the wizard mark, and the "trademark office" is run by Mystra. Anybody trying to copy another wizard's mark faces her wrath, although they do get a warning if they do it accidentally when designing their own wizard mark and it is too close to somebody else's.
    Mystra does not care about the names of magic items, only Wizard's Marks.
