Actually, I'm not sure what you mean by mobility loss... but in NWN heavy armor severly inhibits your dexterity bonus to armor class and skills.

In 3rd Ed, its not uncommon to have light or medium armored characters with a better AC than a full plate wearing one.

If its sheer speed you mean, well if you get burdened in either of the games you mentioned, you move slow.

Gnome Ranger, I have a pentium celeron 700mghz processor, I have an NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 32 mb video card and 256 ram and it works fine on mine. My computer is also about 4 years old.

By 3E rules, heavy armour such as full plate restricts the rate at which your character moves, regardless of the weight of other items. Light and medium armour generally has no effect (normal movement) but your character has reduced mobility in heavier armour (movement rate of 20 ft or 15ft). Neither NWN nor IWD2 imposed this penalty, meaning that a character in full plate has the exact same range of movement as someone in leather armour. Encumberance rules are in effect, although not fully as I don't think NWN reduces AC for medium or heavy encumberance.

Correct. Full Plate is better (AC8/+1 Dex) than any other armor in the game (okay, padded armor and a 26 Dex is the same 9pts of AC). Lesser heavy armors are easily matched by medium and light armors on high dex characters.

NWN and IWD2 do have weight based encumbrance but do not have the inherent speed limits that come with heavy armor. The difference between light armor mobility and heavy armor movement rate is obvious and decisive in combat, particulary with Charge attacks.

My first impression is quite positive sofar. Just generated my party and try to get a grip on controls. Nice implementation of 3e rules - namely feats and skills, generous rolls compared to NWN (but that's probably a question of philosophy ;) ) and overall a nice look.

    My party consists of:
    • Barbarella d'Alazar - human rogue & party leader; focusing on conversational skills; feats: negotiator/ investigator
    • Milla Cloverleaf - halfling rogue; focusing on stealth and core rogue business; feat: thisabouthandlingtinyobjects
    • Alobar Steelfist - dwarven fighter; feats: focus greataxe, power attack
    • Vandriel Starfire - elven mage; feat: still spell
    • Sir Rutgar - human fighter to become cleric of Hieroneus; feats: power attack, cleave, andwhatagainwasthelastone; he'll gain focus longsword with becomeing cleric :)
However, it will be a while till then ...

I've changed my mind radically about this game in the last few days. I'm no fan of turn based combat, but after a few days of getting a feel for the nuances, I'm getting used to it. The graphics in this game steal the show, imo. Quite spectacular-and this alone overrides everything else for me. As far as the scrolling speed...I've tried adjusting it in the "Options" to a 3 or 4, but then, especially out in the open areas or larger maps, the screen blurrs horribly as I try to move my party from place to place. I've reset it back to 1 and just have learned to live with the slowness. It doesn't really seem to be a problem, except when exploring outside. Oh...and I love the water splashing when jumping in and out of the rivers! :thumb:

Is there multiplayer support in the game? I am looking forward to playing it (am purchasing it tomorrow), but I would like to know if I can play with friends over the net. Any recommendations?

    The game is single-player only.

Got the game today and first impression is... not much good. Sure, it looks great but the gameplay is slow and tedious. Whatever happened to games like BG that were actually good?
