That brings me to combat. Turn based. Your party never wins the initiative. At least mine didn’t. Not even against Zombies. And there are LOTS of zombies. If I had a dollar for every zombie I killed in the game, Bill Gates would look poor. If memory serves, there are other monsters in the D&D game. I could be wrong though. So, during the combat round, here’s what happens. The zombies, I mean monsters move (go ahead and watch a movie or go out for dinner or something) about 3x as far as the players can, then attack, and if you survive (monsters always seem to roll high numbers) you get to attack. Better hurry – your turn is timed (unless you turned it off which I HIGHLY recommend doing). This is where it gets REALLY interesting. The interface is the worst I’ve seen in a game. Clumsy, slow, and requiring multiple mouse click to register actions – and precise location clicks – it’s a miracle that you can get anything done. Remember those wands I mentioned? If you want to use one – you have to select it twice in order to do so. Ok, so let’s say you’ve successfully attacked. You’ve even managed to kill a zombie, I mean monster or two. Congratulations. You’re well on your way to being even more bored. I do have to admit one thing I like at this point. You may have used that Magic Missile spell by now (you did follow my suggestion, and select it as a spell, right?) because it is an automatic hit. The spell effects. If the special effects were enough though, Star Wars Episode 1 would be a good movie in much the same way this would be a good game. But, effects can’t save a horrid piece of work. They couldn’t save Phantom Menace, and they don’t save POR.
