The manual implies that you can guard another character, following them and protecting them if they are attacked. How do you do this? When I select that button I cannot click on a character; I can only select an area on the ground. Even if another character is in that area the protect order doesn't seem to be applied to them.

I'm not sure that you can (I can't say that I've ever tried because I like micromanaging). Sounds more like part of a scripted behavior. You should check out the available AI scripts.

I know that there are scripts that do that, but I was trying figure out the use of the Guard button and that's something that the manual says you can do with it.

The manual often lies by commission or omission. I think this is one of those times.

I just tested this out on my install of IWD2, and i can't use guard on any of my othr party members either, just shows me a big no sign. (the strike-through circle)

So yeah, it might have been intended to be used on other party members, but never scripted into the game because of time/budget limitations, or the manual is simply lying, which as dmc noted, it does a lot :p

That's why people stopped reading manuals. You know, besides kids turning into a bunch of lazy, entitled wankers that need to be spoon-fed.

The Guard command (default hotkey F1) assigns a character to guard an area, not another character. You draw a circle in which you wish that chacter to stay, and anything entering the circle will be attacked by that character. Or if you so wish, point a spot on the ground to never move from the spot. Any subsequent command will cancel the guard mode.

I just thought the guard command was bugged. I rarely if ever used it in Baldur's Gate. I didn't know you could draw a circle (or is it a box). I did figure out you could click on a spot on the ground.

    Thanks for the info.
