I have a Half-Orc Barbarian that I'm going to turn into a Druid. At what level would you recommend I switch and why?

    ---------- Added 0 hours, 7 minutes and 12 seconds later... ----------

I guess it would be a better question if I ask what classes to switch to and when? I've got a couple humans to switch class but not sure when. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Half-Orc Barbarian that I want to switch to a Druid.
I have a Kensai that I want to switch to something that I haven't figured out what. Lol
Also a Skald that I could change but I'm not sure if I want to or not?

Sorry I just realized that a Half-Orc can't dual class but I made him human with Half-Orc looks.

Bards and barbarians cannot dual in the vanilla game. There may be some mods that will allow it though.

There is a mod allowing Barbarians to dual-class, but I seem to recall it is unstable in combination with certain other mods. Can't remember exactly, I'm afraid!

Dual-classing can't be done by (as T2Bruno said) Bards and Barbarians, but also not by Sorcerers or Paladins. You need 15 in ALL of the required stats from the first class and 17 in ALL of the required stats of the second class. To see legal class combinations for dual-classing, look at the list of legal multi-classes during character generation.

For example, a Ranger dual-classing to Cleric needs 15 Str, Dex and Con, and 17 Wis. Or, Fighter --> Druid needs 15 Str, and 17 Wis and Cha.

Also note that dualling from a Specialist Mage requires 15 in both Int and the specialist's other favoured attribute, e.g., I believe from a Conjurer you also need a 15 Con.

Happy character creation! Dual-classing is a very varied and rewarding process.

By the way, the two natural dual-classes from a Kensai are Mage or Thief; the former can't wear armour anyway, and the latter will gain Use Any Item which negates the no-armour restriction. In fact the Kenthief is a reasonable tank later in the game (combine Defender of Easthaven and Jan's armour to get a very high physical damage resistance) and can back-stab for enormous damage by using Kai; however the Kensage is much better suited to tanking, with Protection from Magical Weapons, and is probably the choice I'd go for from the two.

I have the following Mods installed:

    G3 Fixpack
    Weimer's Item Upgrade
    Weimer's Solaufein
    G3 Tweakpack

At least one of them is allowing me to dual class from a barbarian to a druid. It also allows me to switch a kensai or bard to a dif class. I just don't know when would be the best time to switch classes for each of them?

You shouldn't be able to dual class a half-orc in any respect, as dual classing is reserved for human characters.

Yes. I forgot that he is human and that I just made him look like a half-orc with his pics & avatar. He is human however. Sorry for the confusion.

Tweakpack might allow for "happy-dual-classing" or something similar in name. I believe Fixpack only modifies(or is intended to only modify) things that the modder thought should of been implemented in the original release. Tweakpacks and others mods are more for optional stuff, like changing DC rules. Obviously Item Upgrade and Soulafein is not the culprit.

You should take into consideration the reasoning behind races and class builds and their function involving Multi-classing and Dual-classing in 2nd edition AD&D and why the system is setup in such a way. It was playtested extensively prior to release. Unlike games of todays world. Dualing a Bard is way overpowered. they reach leveles quickly. A 2nd edition dualled Fighter/Bard would be a dynamite character. Then add a kit to the mix and you have an unstoppable machine.

(...I'm not saying you shouldn't have fun with anything you want to do. I am just warning you of the "overpowerage" of what you are doing.:))

The bard song is a niche ability. Use it when you want your allies protected from fear or to counter fear effects. Although the Skald's song grants combat bonuses I'd only use it after casting your spells. It's not like the Skald is going to be doing much melee/ranged damage anyway. It's similar for the Jester.
For smaller scale battles (no summoned creatures, no haste) just have your Skald attack normally, don't bother singing.

The Skald's song is quite powerful once we consider large scale battles. Consider a low level Skald song which adds +2 damage. 5 party members + 5 summoned creatures = at least 10 attacks, more if there are warrior classes or summoned creatures with more than 1 attack per round. With Haste that's another 10 attacks, for a total of 20 attacks per round. So by just singing your Skald is helping your group deal 20x2 = 40 more damage per round (ideal case scenario). For a class that can also chuck Fireballs that's a lot of extra damage for when you run out of things to do.

At higher levels you can use the Mislead spell to create an image of your bard and have that sing instead.
