How do you always talk to someone with your spokesman?

If the entire party is selected and you click on an NPC to start a dialogue, does the first person in your party initiate the conversation, or do you have to manually choose the spokesman and have him start the conversation alone?

    Thanks.

Its usually the person closest to the action, if you hhave the full party and click to pick up treasure, the closest person does it, same with speaking. On some encounters the NPC forces the dialogue and usually speaks to the party leader, whoever is in the first slot. But for other dialogues, simply choose your speaker, then click the NPC, that way you can keep your fighting formation intact.
