How to beat Alhelor and his cronies

I'm a level 12 sorc. My party constsits of Minsc, Korgan, Viconia, Yoshi and Edwin.

Every time i enter Waukeens Promenade i get attacked by Alhelor (a mage), Sir Joylus and others like him. I've tried about 6 times to beat them but they seem real strong. I've tried protection from Magical energy and a whole bunch of summons with defensive harmony and other protection spells.

Anyone have any sure fire ways of defeating them?

Alternatively, anyone know how to enter the Promenade at the bottom right rather than the top left where i always seem to end up?

All help appreciated.

Sounds like you have a real low reputation, am I right?

You might want to raise your rep in a temple, just enough, maybe about 7, so that you don't get attacked.

Not very evil, donating to churches, but evil needs to know when to appear good. Consider it the evil version of the ways injustifing the means

 

Actually, my reputation is 12.

Alehor appears to be a rogue mage with five or six fairly tough sword weilding servants (Sir Joylus etc.)

One time i managed to enter Waukeens Promenade at the bottom right and they did not attack. I can't remember how to enter that way however. I'm trying to get to the Adventurers Mart.

This seems to be a sort of bug or something ,perhaps you should see that you have the lastest patch installed...
Of course you can always kill them and not lose reputation even though they are more or less lawful good....
An easy way to kill them AND amnish guards is lots of skull traps.

I think where you enter Waukeens Promenade is random, or at least I haven't see a pattern.

 

It seems that whenever you enter from the city gates, you appear in the lower right, but other than that, I haven't seen much of a pattern either. I think entering from the docks, you'll always appear in the upper left.

then just run away from them

 

Earlier in the game did Viconia attack one of the guys who insults elves just outside the promendae on the left hand side? This can cause unrequired combat - although I dont recall the names of any of the attackers.

There is also a quest, cant remember which one, I think its a specific NPC quest though, or it may be a thief stronghold quest, not sure, where you are supposed to meet some people in the promenade, but it is actually an ambush and you have to kill them - that would spawn these characters you have to meet for the quest there. I'm probably thinking a different bunch of miscreants tho!

 

Killed Ajantis

I know I'm 13 years late to the party, but this is probably because you killed the knights (with Ajantis) at the entrance to the Windspear Hills map and never resolved the quest.
