If he is responsible, that is quite a terrible crime indeed. Why does my fighter have 50 different at-will/daily/whatever powers? I just wanna hit stuff!

I actually thought that being sentenced to fight in the Blood War was a step UP from his previous existence. (Remember, the symbol of Torment comes off of his body when he regains his memory, and I think that's an important symbol.)

Instead of spending countless numbers of years being tortured by his lack of knowledge of his own identity and his own past, he's now a soldier who knows himself. Yeah, it's a really nasty war, but Nameless is an excellent fighter, and I think he'll be okay there.

I actually thought that it was a semi-happy ending, myself.

As for the central question of it being a just sentence, i'm not too sure. Part of the genius of this game was to not give details and keep your focus on the basic ideas- can an unspeakably horrible evil be redeemed with an eternity of good? Obviously TNO thought so, or thought it was his last chance, but since it didn't turn out that way maybe accepting his punishment was the only route to redemption. He willingly accepted this as penance for his past mistakes, after all, even after he came to know himself again.
