Finally got it on my system!
I was initially using the Beamdog pre-loader from Sept. Was getting about 1 - 2 B/S on the download. At this rate, it would have taken 2 weeks to download. After reading some of the forums, this wasn't working for alot of people. The trick was to uninstall that pre-loader, re-install the newer version and restart the download. Success! Now I was getting about 2 MB/S. The total time was about 20 minutes.

Now to wait until Nov. 28th. :(

I used the game itself (another one of the download options) instead of Beamdogs' downloader. Didn't have any problems after Beamdogs' servers came back up.

I have never been involved with a pre-download scenario before. I see pros to it though. Like being able to play immediately upon release. I would think that the key is for the developer to make sure the download is ready before putting it out there.... Is the history on pre-downloads a bad thing?

I think pre-downloads are pretty standard these days. I guess they help alleviate the insane rush to download that would otherwise have happened on release day.

Agree with Tal on that point it does help alleviate the strain on servers come release time but if its online only like Diablo 3 or any MMORPG then it doesnt really help but with single player offline games it does help big time.

I think Tal hit the nail on the head. It's just like with Christmas shopping: "get in early, avoid the rush".

It's a boon to the player too. Download now, play when you get home on release day. No dealing with 5kb/s d/l because of server traffic and getting to play tomorrow :-P.

Looks like I am good to go. version 0.2.4.0 is showing when I hover the mouse over the BGEE exe file.

The Beamdog website boards are full of people complaining of Download issues. Looks like I avoided it. Whew! :)

I assume there is more to the pre-download than the BG.exe!
Anyone of the pre-DL'er been snooping around the folders for some interesting bits and pieces??

Yes, the Data folder is showing over a gig, so I know I should be good with the download.

The PDF Game Manuals(there are 2) that come with the download have a ton of errors in them, which are being addresed on the Beamdog site. A good example is the Manuals are showing Bard/Rogue as gaining d8 HPs/level. Obviously that is wrong. The Blackguard is a Pally kit, with Poison ability, a type of Healing for himself when dealing damage as a special ability per day and an Aura. They do not list any immunities for him. Still, the Kit looks awesome. Can't wait to pick up the Blackguard NPC. Looks like the shapeshifter gets Werewolf ability at 1st level, very bad decision. They list the Archer as getting Specialization with melee weapons, that is wrong. all the BG2 kits are in play. No other modded kits are added. I noticed the Racial Ability Modifiers are odd. Halfling gets -1 Wisdom and Strength? I have never noticed a 17 wis max for Halflings previously....They list a bunch of Magical items in the Manual but all they really are is Plate +1, Ring of Protection +1, Boots of Speed, etc.. with a name added to it, no special abilities added. I thought that was kind of lame and transparent. I never understood why companies try to add flare to basic things when they are really adding no substance, it's kind of insulting.
