What do you think about some sidequests involving some of R.A Salvatores books. Like Cadderly, or Bruenor, Jarlaxle, etc. I think side quests involving these well known characters would provide alot of enjoyment for new and old gamers alike. Of, course you would have to decide on who would be there due to the time that BGIII took place. But since elves, and dwarves live so long, you could incorporate them quite well. I really enjoyed it in SOA when Drizzt walked through cutting down the vampires with you. But really would have liked to have more to do with the rest of the party as well. A side quest to help one of them or retrieve something would be pretty cool.

This could only work if the game was set during the time period in which those characters lived, presumably..............

well, seeing how bruenor is a couple hundred years old I think he would fit. Drizzt in the books is not nearly as old, but still in his mid to late early years(if that makes sense). I don't think it would be a problem of time, but content. Figuring out a good side quest I mean

Frankly I don't see why you would need Drizzt in ANY non-Salvatore story. He's not a major character like Elminster (despite being more popular in the real world). Not to mention you would have to justify any of them being there. The Forgotten Realms is large enough so that the developers can create their own characters, why steal someone else's?

Drizzt's been stolen FAR too many times and he has filled a role that could easily have been done by an origional character.

Unless Salvatore decrees that he wants Drizzt in a game to contribute to his own story then Drizzt or anyone directly related to him or his party should not be included.

Simply put, are the designers so un-creative that they can't make up their own characters? If this is the case then Baldur's Gate III doesn't look too good.

Unfortunately, designers look for what sells. I remember when in SOA there was something about Entreri being aligned with Bodhi in Bodhi's lair. I have never seen so many upset people when they found out he was not going to be there. So in rebuttal of your statement Abomination, they don't need to be there or even should be there, but alot of gamers would like to see something like a character they know or have seen or read about. I agree about Drizzt, he is one of the most popular characters in Forgotten Realms history. But you cannot deny the fact that alot of people books, games. etc because of familiarity. I love games where there are surprises and maybe no one I have never heard about. This thread was not about BGIII not being good, it was written because, Drizzt was in BG1, and the whole party in SOA, it would seem they like the idea of this and regardless of what you or I say or think, they will probably be in 3
