Torment novel

    I've read the novel 'Torment' by the Vallese's after completing the game twice (found it at a flea market for almost nothing), and I found it qute entertaining, actually an easy read. It's not a literary masterpiece, and one should know the game first to my mind to fully enjoy it, the story is in many places very different from what one can do in the game. 240 pages can only touch a minor part of the complexity of the game. Actually I was positively astounded by how Dak'kon was depicted in this book.
    Has anyone of you read this? What do you think of it?

    It will not keep me from playing the game again, since it offers so many ways to handle things differently.

    Yep, I have pretty much the same opinion of it. It's "only" OK, but quite interesting in places.

    Personally I prefer the version where someone (Rhys Hess IIRC?) played the game through as a good character and basically just put the game dialog down into text as a "novel".

    The novel was bundled with one or two of the early releases of the game, but it was completed some time before the game was released, which also accounts for various differences between the game and the novel (but others were intentional as well). It was only released separately after the game though, IIRC.

    I have the book and have read it... a long time ago. (I'm talking like 7 or 8 years here) I can't remember details but I do remember that I wasn't all the impressed... or I probably would have remembered it right? Anyways, I am going to read it again so that I can know for sure but I do remember one thing: They gave The Nameless One a name in it. (I'm not talking one of his many "pet" nicknames such as berk, chief, cutter, etc. I'm talking about a legitimate name) How lame is that?

    yes, Dak'kon had a name for him in his own language, abbreviated as 'Thane', but it wasn't his real name.
