I'm a little confused. I read in the manual that you can attack and move in a turn in either order, but I've noticed that when I attack first, I sometimes am not allowed to move afterward and the turn goes to the next character.

I've also noticed that when I move first but remain in the green zone, I still am not able to attack afterward. In this case, it doesn't automatically move to the next character, so I have to click the red button to end my turn.

Am I doing something wrong? Does this have to do with the option of when a turn ends (in the preferences)?

    Thanks.

It's been quite awhile since I played ToeE, so I could be wrong. I believe you can only attack if you are still in the 'green.' So you can move throughout the whole bar, but if you go into the yellow with a move action you won't be able to attack. Are you trying to cast a spell or do a full round action after moving/staying in the green? Spells are a full round action I think, a full attack or other special kinds of attacks are full round actions too. You should be able to make a basic melee or ranged attack after moving while you're still in the green though.

If I'm recalling correctly (and I don't currently have the game installed or I would check) there is an option somewhere in the menu to either auto skip the turn after you attack and are low on 'action points', or not skip to the next turn even if you have no 'action points' left.

Hopefully something I said there was right :xx:

There are three types of actions in the game:
Full-round actions (casting most spells, full attacks, moving maximum distance, etc)
Attack/Move actions (regular attack, some spells, moving within a certain range, etc)
Quick actions (quickened spells, 5-foot-step, etc)

You can do one quick action no matter what, but beyond that you have a choice of either one full-round or one attack and one move action. I'm guessing your attacks that don't let you move after are full attacks or other special attacks. As for moving and not being able to attack afterward, if you aren't trying to do a full attack or the like, you may just be coming too close to the edge. The game does have a few bugs and imprecisions like that.

I think I figured out part of the problem. It happens when I move my wizard and then try to have him attack with his crossbow. I get the message "not enough time." Does this have something to do with reloading? How exactly does reloading work? Is it different for light/heavy crossbows?

    Thanks.

I think for light crossbows reloading is a free action and it's a move/attack action for heavies? I'm not sure, though. Yes, though, you do need to reload a crossbow. One of the reasons I don't like them as much.

According to the 3.5e Player's Handbook, you can do the following within one round:

    • Take a standard action and a move action (in either order)
    • Two move actions
    • One full round action

Again according to the 3.5e Player's Handbook, it takes a move action to load a hand or light crossbow and it takes a full round action to load a heavy or repeating crossbow.

Taking the Rapid Reload feat will change X-bow reload time "down" one level, i.e. A free action for light crossbows and a standard action for heavy crossbows.
