[IMG] Ok I know this can be played as an online game but I probably wouldn't play that, what I want to know is if the one-player campaign is worth playing? I.e. is it worth buying for that alone?

    Short answer:
    Yes, it's a blizzard game.

    Longer answer
Its probably got one of the better story-line around (for a strategy game)
A few plot twists, although you can seen them coming they are done well.

    Optional Sub-quests in each mission.
The ai is good, for its time of release (+better than that found in some more recent games)

I bought it solely for the single-player game.

There's a huge multiplayer focus but the singleplayer campaigns are actually much more interesting than anything you can get in multiplayer. Buy it together with the expansion for a good price and you won't likely regret.

[IMG] Definitely worth buying. Make sure you get the "Battle Chest" package with the expansion included if you can... The UK Amazon doesn't have it new any more (only via Marketplace and pretty expensive), but the US one does, and pretty cheap at this point: link

    Oh, hey chev.

I've bought Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne for £16 sadly not through Amazon as they were £18.

I did think of the Battle Chest but the strategy guides put me off, strangely I try to avoid those at first and then look for ones written by people who play the games when I get stuck.

    Hey, Tal. :shake:

DarkStrider, you don't need strategy guides for the single-player campaigns, I think. More for multiplayer. But multiplayer strategies change dynamically, so whatever they print out will be old and long debunked and laughed at on battle.net when it finally gets read.

On the contrary, the strategy guide is only useful for the single player campaigns. If you are used to strategy games, then you won't need it. However, the guide does help the new player a lot by providing maps, objectives (and how to complete them - War3 is said to be a "role-playing strategy" and there are many RPG-like quests in the campaign) and overall strategy for each level. Any multiplayer strategies included in the guide have been outdated by the first or second patch, i.e. about a month after release.

It's not just the one player campaign you'll be getting. You can always play against the computer on custom maps, and there are tons of interesting user-created maps out there to download. Eg: tower defense, RPG style maps, hero arenas, etc.

[IMG] I have been playing this on and off all week since I installed it on Saturday, the mission I'm on is where I have to hold the town for 30 minutes while Jaina goes for reinforcements. I'm impressed by the game, I just dived in and started playing and the storyline is good, the introduction of new elements or units well thought out, the interesting little side quests you can find.

Thank you one and all for persuading me to shell out for it, yes it was worth the money.

You pretty much can't go wrong with a Blizzard game.

No joke this is one of the games you can continue to play for ages. Play with 11 friends and DAMN it's fun, although playing on your own is just as fun sometimes :D

I think one of the best features is the World Edit. You can have hours of fun makeing your own maps and races.
