I see lots of bodies of the shadow thieves but who/what were they fighting? It had to be at least 1 mage because of the spell shot at the shadow thief that comes in and gets nailed. But then the mage disappears to never be seen again. Not that you saw him to begin with :p
It can't be Jon because he just left and he would check on me anyway.
You never see anyone on Jon's side.
    Just curious :)

Of course you do ... you end up killing them all during your escape.

Perhaps it was a dwarf. There were casters in a far-away room. But I always saw it as some sort of magical defensive trap that Irenicus placed there. The Shadow Thief kinda stands still for a round before it hits him, so it's not like the game traps you spring when walking over them.

Dwarves aren't mages in 2nd edition AD&D that BG2 is based on. Halflings and Dwarves are inherently non-magical. They can only channel divine power, not arcane.

The whole thing about the power being channeled from the deity led to us making house rules that made priests a bit more powerful by making them like the sorcerers in BG2 with a sort of spell point system, only you could swap spells by preying for a different kind of miracle following the memorization rules. They still had to spend time in prayer and meditation each day to recover their allotment of miracles.
Sorry, I'm getting sidetracked. My group didn't like the vancian spellcasting, so we worked out something similar (not quite, but close) to what is described by Jared Ornstead/Skysaber/Polychrome Knight/White Phoenix in his famous "Otaku Four: Skysaber's Choice" fanfic.

    Sorry, gotten off track.

[IMG] Don't forget the clones, genie, golems, traps, gibberlings, ogre mage (in the room along from the lightning trap), Otyugh, Duergers (a couple of which are mages) and a doppleganger... ;)

Lol...that one made my day. It's banana-peel funny.

Wanted to ask you what have you been doing in Irenicus Dungeon if not fighting.

    :)
