With a lot of wizards the first time around I took down most Beholders in the underdark with magic missiles. Both my main character and one of the others used there spell sequencers and minor sequencers all loaded with magic missiles. The eldar orb took a little longer.

This time through the game the second time I am going to try complete the game with more fighters to make it more challenging.

I had difficulties taking down the first two dragons until later on when I had improved weapons and spells.

Minsc later on took on most of the mind flayers by himself and bet them. Cannot remember what sword or protections he had.

Never actually completed the Twsted rune or Kangaxx quests. This time I will.

[IMG] Shura when I cleared the Beholder Lair with the cloak of mirroring; I thought I cheated 'cause all I had done was to stand in front of Beholders with Keldorn... So I took off the cloak and used guerilla tactics (harass, split, finish) with Minsc(bow-lilarcor), Keldorn(crossbow-Carsomyr) and occasionally Jaheria and my priest of Helm. And man,it was one hell of game satisfaction when I cleared the second time :)

Has anyone tried using chaos or some similar spell on the beholders of gauths? It seems to me I used that tactic once and it worked fairly well. I think I used some spell reflection spells on my mages as well.

I quess for me it's been the mind flayers in the sewers. I cleared the forst two rooms without any problem, but I was definately unprepared for the last one. They just dropped my party one by one. It was just luck the my main character didn't die. Jan stayed out of the fray firing arrows, so ha managed to make it as well. Lost four members, but had the strength not to reload. But any of the worst enemies could have been just as bad, just the luck of the draw. Incidently, went in the twisted ruin once and it looks very hard. Thought the temple slavers were very easy, as well as the vampire lair.

Top this: Beating Kangaax with a solo sorcerer; and, beating the Twisted Rune with the same solo sorcerer as well. One thing to say, Melf's Minute Meteors. No matter what level I am, that has always been in the top 3 of my favorite spells and I have a non-hacked in any way or form, 28th level sorcerer.

You can't have any 28th level "non-hacked" character because the experience point cap prevents it. You would have to install the XP-Cap remover in order to do this. You therefor have a hacked game. Every battle in the game can be easy with the proper planning or it can be impossible without.

First of all, please use a different word than "hack". "Alter" will work fine.

Secondly, xp cap removers are SO justifiable, I'd compare it to an expansion pack rather than an alteration. Just because you chose to remove the invisible and inexplicable adventurers block your character has does not mean you have in some way cheated the game but rather prevented it from cheating you out of countless hours of fun.

I don't know about most challenging, but the ones I find most interesting are not the dragons or liches which are 'signposted' and where you do your prep. first.
For me it's the mixed parties of adventurers that you blunder into all unprepared and then suddenly a helluva scrap breaks out. Examples: The bunch upstairs in the Inn on Waukeen, the bunch in the sewers (particularly trickey since you've just been fighting lowly goblins), 'Lora Croft's' bunch of tombrobbers in the Windspear Hills and the bunch in the Underdark who mistake you for Drow.
The AI is a lot better than IWD so the spellcasters buff and cast, the fighters all rush you and the thieves turn invisible and backstab. You have to make up your stategy as you go along and if you replay it often plays completely differently.

FYI, FIRST: I beat the game nomally before I removed the cap. SECOND: I beat Kangaax and the Twisted Rune with a 17th level sorcerer after I came back from the Underdark my first time through the game, so it was pre-XP cap removal. Consider it justified. I'm no cheater and cheaters get no respect from me. (Except if it requires a lot of intelligence instead of just for the hell of it)

Of course, after I did remove the cap and beat them again, it was much easier having a spell deflected simulacrem absorbing all of the hits.

One other thing: by "hacked", I meant without using the Shadow whatchamacallit. Removing the cap just simply adds to the fun and lets the game be more interesting. I beat the game normally and I paid $45 for it. Besides, Bioware made the game get harder as you increase in level, so it makes up for it.

I am a fairly lkow level party, and I found that the hardest battle so far was TorGal and co, in my first attempt, i ran in and got wiped out, second time I tempted Torgal into the room that previously held the umber hulks and killed him, then I went on to the other two moronic giant trolls.
