I'm new to the D&D stuff, but figuring it out, a couple questions if you don't mind me asking. one, were do i find the guy who wants the broken sword in the 1st chapter? and are the gems that you pick up worth keeping? or selling. also what about any jewelry you pick up, will it tell you if it's magical?
thanks!

When you pick up stuff read the description of the item. If it's magical it all usually have a "?" after the name. You can try to ID it and find out for sure. Or you can cast detect magic to see if it's magical, but it the game you really don't need to do this. You can also cast ID if you fail all your lore rolls or pay to get something ID at a shop.

Sell the Jewelry and the Gems if they aren't magical or part of a quest. If they are part of a quest then they will be named originally and you'll know. Also, if you do sell something that is part of a quest, it's easy to go back to that same shop and buy it back (for a loss of course :)). I don't remember if the broken sword has anything to do with a quest or not. It might just be trash!

The last note I'll make is that magical items have a blue tint covering them when they are unidentified, and a blue outline once identified. Have fun with the game!

sweet!, thanks for the help, the broken sword was part of chapter one, said something about returning it to Jahred ( i think that was his name) just not sure or don't remember where he was..

return the broken sword to Jhonen. not only will you get exp. for doing so (if you return to the woman who gave it to you), but i heard a rumor that you can get it back as a powerful long sword later on in the game. as for Jhonens location, he is just North of the overturned boats.

ok cool, thanks again, but here's another dumb question, any chance of getting abck to easthaven? once i've gotten to Kalduhar? i tried walking back through the pass, but it's still blocked i presume.
sorry to be a nag :)

Don't plan on ever going back there! ;) You can never get through the pass again.

DOH, what about animal hides? like wolf pelts and stuff, i noticed to sell you can make a pretty penny, but do they serve any value?

none other than to make a little extra cash.
