View Full Version : Talking squirrel in Nashkel
Yolar Mon, 27th Nov '00, 1:51pm Something really strange happened to me and a friend of mine when we were playing Baldur's Gate.
We were fighting against this crazy mage in the graveyard of Nashkel when we saw a talking squirrel. After some clicking we killed it and this squirrel had a Ion Stone of Luck.
Taluntain Mon, 27th Nov '00, 4:34pm That's an urban myth heh. I remember back then someone started the joke about the ioun stone and it got carried all over the net and everyone was killing squirrels from Beregost to Baldur's Gate, but no one actually found the stone.
And in all my time working here at the site AND replaying the game, AND knowing the whole game inside out I've never seen it either.
I looked through the item codes and couldn't find it there either, not even to create it through the console.
So, until you can get me some proof of that I remain skeptic. Get me some screenshots and send em over to sorcerer -AT- sorcerers.net
If it's true I'll post it on the site. Send me the pic of the stone in your inventory, of it equipped (where do you put it anyway) and it's description text.
Sniper Mon, 27th Nov '00, 8:10pm Oh Goody Good! A good old fashioned treasure hunt! Ok whos up for abit of dosh making? Ofcourse i'm the leader...
Yolar Tue, 28th Nov '00, 12:33pm It seems that nobody believes me...snif snif,
OK, I will try to find this squirrel again and this time make a screenshot. It may take some time, cause I gave my copy of Baldur's Gate to a friend of mine to get him hooked. Which of course, worked.
Sniper Tue, 28th Nov '00, 7:47pm Therefore i have decided to appoint yalor as the mapper of this expedition
Wassup Tue, 28th Nov '00, 10:14pm Maybe he will get us to a dangerous place, where we will be ambushed, attacked, stealed killed and throw as food to a bunch of hysteric gibberling.
Sol'Kanar Wed, 29th Nov '00, 5:14am THEY'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!!!
Mollusken Wed, 29th Nov '00, 8:16am Do you get something from the talking chicken?
Taluntain Wed, 29th Nov '00, 4:13pm Take the chicken back to the mage in High Hedge. The chicken is the mage's apprentice who had an accident with a polymorph spell. ;)
Wassup Wed, 29th Nov '00, 4:41pm But save before talking to the mage in the tower. Because he will try to transfrom the guy back into his original form and it does work all time. Sometime, he die in the process and you dont get the experience points.
Sniper Thu, 30th Nov '00, 12:32am Ah! Another quest! Thing is, y'know that thief outside the High Hedge, he says there is tonnes of treasure in the High Hedge so i just goes in, Kill the flesh golems and Thalantylier or whatever his name is and he's got god damn no stuff on him! So where is this treasure?
Sol'Kanar Thu, 30th Nov '00, 1:29am I did the same thing! What's up with that? "Magical treasures lying around everywhere" my a...er uh that is what's up with that?
Taluntain Thu, 30th Nov '00, 5:21pm No treasure there except for the one Talanthyr can sell to you. He's got some great stuff... for a price.
Sniper Thu, 30th Nov '00, 8:48pm *Holding Thalaintyr's blood soaked body* So much for a world record heist! *Dumps body on the floor* Damn! Where's that lying thief! Y'sure you can't get any other magical items? Maybe there's a secrect door no?
Taluntain Thu, 30th Nov '00, 9:26pm Nope, there's nothing. I screwed it up myself te first time too when I listened to the thief. Good thing I saved before so I could just reload. ;)

Sol'Kanar Thu, 30th Nov '00, 11:26pm I usually just pick his pockets and them sell him the potions I steal. What a loser. You'd think he'd check his pockets after someone sells him exactly what he is carrying.
Sniper Fri, 1st Dec '00, 12:16am I have abosolutly no luck when pickpocketing wizards...damn! *kicks flesh golems head*
Where's Melicamp the chicken?
Ah there he is!
*cluck* **** off *cluck*
NO! YOU DIE!
*Melicamp is beheaded and rolls on the floor*
Hmm...Time to go and wreak havok at the socerer Sundries in Baldur's Gate...
*Walks out of High Hedge*
I must still continue that treasure hunt...
shadow Sat, 2nd Dec '00, 4:53am Sol'Kanar: How do you pick-pocket pple from the buy/sell screen? I've tried using the Steal screen on Winthrop but got no response.
Sniper Sat, 2nd Dec '00, 1:08pm Well usually you click on the item you want to steal and the steal button will ligh up and then go click on it...
*Walks off heading towards the Nashkal Mines determined to find Volo*
Taluntain Sat, 2nd Dec '00, 2:44pm Volo is in one of the taverns in Nashkel. (Figures) :)
Sniper Sat, 2nd Dec '00, 7:24pm *Walks into the tavern in Nashkal*
Volo...Volo!
Yes what is it?
I have come-
Its you! No please! I did nothing!
I saw you there...You were there laughing at me when you knew that my parents were being slaughtered!
That was not me I-
Shut the **** up! You die now!
I shall not go without a fight *draws dagger and lunges at Sniper*
*Dodges causing Volo to trip and preceeds to cast sleep on Volo*
HARUM MAJU KANITO
*Volo slumps to the floor asleep and Sniper walks out of the tavern...the whole tavern is silent*
A few minutes later...
*Sniper chants the fireball spell and casts it onto the tavern, followed up by afew skull traps and then casts an invisibilty spell and walks off into the distance laughing heading towards Baldurs Gate*
Sniper Sun, 3rd Dec '00, 3:56pm Peasant: Er...hey you! Whatszat you got there?
*Holds up Head of an Ogre*
Sniper:Whats it look like?
Peasant: Er...nothing...you going anywhere?
Sniper :Do you know where the man Basilus is?
Peasant:He was killed by a man called Majikus. He's-
Sniper:Where is this Majikus
Peasant:Oh he was last seen in Baldur's Gate hunting Saerovok...
Sniper:Thankyou for your help but i'm sorry but i can't let news spread around...
HAKILOPUNIS
*4 magic missiles rip through the peasents body*
Sniper:What a tool
*Walks off into the distance*
DarkCroll Thu, 13th Sep '01, 1:31pm my brother maked an aligment test
do u want it sniper
Extremist Thu, 13th Sep '01, 5:59pm Actually, Sniper deceased last year... :(
Spot the date of his post...
We missed him so much that we made an AI to imitate him lately and post instead of him...
Volar Blackmane Fri, 14th Sep '01, 6:05pm Just to comment on the topic, that squirrel is in Dark Side of the Sword Coast.
Headbanger Sat, 15th Sep '01, 12:13pm Sniper, you naughty spammer, two straight posts in a topic.. I thought that was impossible Tal? Or did you remove that patch? Anyway I didn't expect you to do something. I say he deserves the Idiot of the Week avatar :p (kidding)
Anyone seen a squirrel while fighting that crazy mage at the Nashkel Graveyard? For that could be a reason why no-one found the stone.

Lokken Sat, 15th Sep '01, 1:36pm the patch is still there, it was posted before the patch was made.
Who are looking out for squirrels when they are fighting mages anyway?
Headbanger Sat, 15th Sep '01, 2:31pm Lokken, just read... There is a myth about a squirrel that has an Ioun Stone, never found. The topic starter claimed to have found it, after killing a talking squirrel, after fighting the mage in Nashkel Graveyard. The mage apears when you click several times on one of the graves. But since the started of this topic didn't reply anymore, I don't know if I have to believe it, else he would have done it again... and came with some screenshots.
Sniper Sat, 15th Sep '01, 9:32pm It is true. The real Sniper deceased way back then. I am an AI unit protocol droid from a galaxy far far away. :p
Anyway, has the talking squirrel been found yet?
Headbanger Sat, 15th Sep '01, 9:55pm Is it an idea to polymorph Melicamp into a squirrel? Maybe then it can talk? :p
Extremist Mon, 17th Sep '01, 7:44pm There is no such "stone" in the game.
The original poster lied or had installed something else besides official game and expansion like Volar suggested. I wish that original poster nice future on Ir*****ks. :flaming:
Only one stone is "similar" to "Ion", and that is:
Iol gem
Iol is actually short for Iolite (cordierite), although a common nickname is "violet stone" even though its overall hue is usually blue. Iols are usually cut into faceted gems to best display the stone's color change as it is viewed from different directions. Small, cut iols can be clear, but larger specimens usually contain silky inclusions of another substance such as hemitite crystals, which give the same rich golden flash of color as in sunstones.
Only one thing in this game is "of luck" and it is (from books):
Tyche - goddess of Luck
Yes, I actually borrowed BG and TOTSC just for this... Gimme that IOTW plaque.
Research was done with hex editor and looking for keywords (ignoring caps in data):
ion
ioun
of luck
So Tal, will you please close this spam thread already?
Taluntain Mon, 17th Sep '01, 10:53pm As I said in the beginning a year ago. :heh: Topic closed.
