ok people listen up, i'm going on a big hunt and i was wondering what the best party in the game is?
oh, and taluntain, if anyone even says anything bad about Khalid then i request that you lock this topic, also i would like to hear what ur best party is?
i would like my party to have the best of all worlds, eg a mage, a fighter, a thief with good skills early on and late in the game, a druid/cleric, and whatever else you would like to suggest.

Khalid sucks! I killed him when I played BG and good ridance to him!

Here's my party for most of the gameplay:

Imoen
Coran

Replace Coran with Kivan if you will. They're both quite useful.

Wow, that's pretty close to what I had.
My character was a Ranger though.

I had Xan for a while, but I tired of his lack of area-effect spells, so I dualled Imoen to a mage and picked up Coran to fill in as Thief. (Though when I picked him up I think most of his thief points were in Pick Pocketing or some nonsense like that :rolleyes: )

My party is somewhat similar:

Me: Alako (fighter)
Minsc
Coran
Imoen
Branwen
Dynaheir

When I replay it, my party will be:

Me (thief)
Imoen (lvl 5 thief dualled to generalist mage)
Kivan
Vicona
Sefana (thief near waterfall) / Alora
Any other guy/girl

Sorry, anyway, for a good party, mine was:

Xalen- half elf multi fighter/mage

Khalid- don't know why you don't want to here his name. He is a great fighter with plate +3, defender +5, boots of speed, cloak of reflection(?), helm of glory, ring of invisibility, etc, etc, etc. Just as long as you give him gauntlets of ogre power.

Minsc - really great character in Bg and Bg2. Kept him (at end) with a composite long bow of some sort and 2 handed sword +3 and ring free action.

Coran - a lot of people didn't take him because he is found relatively late in the game. But he was very good for me with Drittz's armor and frostbrand. Excelent thief and backstaber, and not a bad backup fighter. Hit almost every shot with bow damage +3, thaco +2, and did a lot of damage. When I got him, though, all his points were in stealth.

Quayle - again, not a popular character, but has a huge number of spells. He was all the cleric power I needed, and I just don't like devoting a party slot to a pure character.

Dynheir - never had a problem with her. A lot of people seemed not to like her because of the spells she couldn't cast, but with the other mage power I had, not a problem for me. I thought she was really good.

For an evil party, I would have taken myself(fighter mage), Shura?(female fighter you pick up be chalenging her), dwarf in bereghost(whatever his name is), Tiax, Qualye, Xzar. I'd keep Montey around till I found Tiax.
