Twice now, both times after having returned the "Deathbane" staff to the stump cleric, I have returned to the first room in the Great Hall and found the doors closed and when I go to open them I get the message, "Key needed to open this door".

This is really annoying me. There then thereafter, appears no way to get into the dungeon. I haven't gotten far enough along to open that other entrance by the stump.

And yes I took and used both keys, and no I did not sell drop or give them away.

QUESTION:
Anyone know of an item editor or way to hack a "Key of the Living" back into my inventory?

This really ruined my weekend.

I must say, having played IWD,HoW,BG,ToSC,BG2,ToB, as well as the ancient gold box PoR, all of which I enjoyed, this game is a real UNPLEASANT time waster. I am starting to hate it. And yes, I have all 3 patches installed.

This has never happened to me (but, then again, I have my own bugs to deal with, most notably the "gosh it's been five whole minutes, it must be time to crash back to windows bug"). The only suggestion I have for you (yes, it's obvious and inane) is don't leave the dungeon through the main staircase (maybe that's why I've never had this bug). There are two separate ways of exiting the Main Halls through the cave area by the stump and there really is no need to leave before finding at least one such exit. You can sleep in many rooms, so I'd suggest that you avoid giving back the staff until you find an alternative way out. By the way, as long as you understand that the game is essentially a dungeon hack, you save a lot, grit your teeth at the crashes and get through it. It's no worse than any other hack I've played conceptually.

I figured out how to hack it by myself. In case the same crap happens to another, the "Key of the Living" is "4A 03 00 00 3D 9E", at least that's what worked for me. It was a real pain to work out.

Can i ask you something? Where did you do this change exactly? I'm asking you because i don't know where is the inventory and what to change in it.
