View Full Version : Having trouble with Darktongue

I am currently about to enter Luskan with my level 13 cleric. Along the road, I encounter this dwarf with two guards. Both guards examine as moderate, and Darktongue is Overpowering. I have tried every tactic I can think of, to no avail. With a concentration skill of 8, I am unable to cast any spells in the fight. Could anyone please give me some advice on beating this guy? No cheese, please.

get a henchman that can hold him off while you cast spells.
you can also bring him close to the gate where the guard is and the guard may help you out. (although the guard will turn on you if you use radious spells that hit him :p

Wasn't that the same Dwarf with the busted leg in the Arms Alliance?

IIRC, he uses a hammer, so a Brawler's Belt (Greater would be even better if you can afford it) would help you out.

It might have been, I didn't pay that much attention. He is the final boss on the way to Luskan, however I believe.

I can afford the Greater, so maybe I'll give this a try, thanks BTA. One question though. If I spend most of my money on this belt, will I be regretting it once I get into Luskan? ie. Are there a lot of desirable items there for sale?

Yes, it was the same guy in the Alliance Arm Inn.

I have not found money to be a problem except at the very beginning. I now have between 600 and 700 thousand gold pieces at the end of chapter 3, and I can't think of anything I might want to spend it on; I have pretty much all the equipment I can think I'd want.

I don't remember when, but I bought both the Greater Swordsman, and Greater Brawler's belts, and I found a Greater Archer's belt. I rarely use the Archer's, but I have on either the Brawler's or Swordsman's belt all the time.

Alright, I just won this battle (literally, about 2 minutes ago.) I managed to get slay living off on the guard while my tiger held back on the other two, then managed to get Darktongue down to Near Dead when Sharwyn died. Then I managed to teleport out, get healed, go back in and end the fight. You were right, BTA, he does use a hammer. Although I only have about 40k in cash at the beginning of Chapter 3.

How did you get all that cash? I don't didn't really have a cash problem but I've only had up to half of you had Tal. Is that another solo or difficulty problem?

Well, I don't really have a money problem too. I actually left Luskan with some approx 400.000 gp but without a few dancy items I'd like to have. Buying them reduces my funds so I now only have some 200.000 gp. Which is not that much considering the price of some fine items.

But IMO buying items is kinda stupid - since you find the best stuff anyway.

I ended the game with over 800,000 gp. And I disagree about buying stuff. The Greater Brawler's and Swordsman's belts, the Gladiator longsword and the Greater Amulet of Health were all fantastic, and I never found them.

Actually, this game seems to be more like PST, in that you have to buy a lot of the most useful items. The items BTA mentioned, where's that longsword btw? It sounds quite nice. I also found the ring of power to be quite useful, and I'm pretty sure that has to be bought as well.

I saw the Gladiator longsword for sale in a few places... I believe I bought it in the Green Griffon. It's +2 and does 1d6 extra acid damage.

Green Griffon? Dang, I already started Chapter Three. I have about 60,000 gold, and just purchased a scimitar +2 and a longsword +2 for dual-wielding. Do you know of any better swords that can be purchased in Luskan?

I can't believe I passed up a Gladiator Longsword. I'm a Ranger and I'm always looking for good longswords.

Without spoiling too much, would you please explain how to do this? I never understood the item creation part fully.

For the weapons, you basically find a smith that will make them for you (they'll have a book of weapons and ingredients of what they can make for you).

For other stuff, though I personally didn't do it, I believe there are mage labs where you can make other kinds of magic items based on recipes you can find in books.

There are two smiths, one in Neverwinter and one in Beorunna's Well. If you ask them correctly, they will give you a list of what they will make and what it takes to make it. It will not, however, tell you exactly what the item does. Once you know what you want made, just put the items on the forge/anvil and talk to the smith.

For mage items, they can be made at a variety of locations. Eltoora is usually at the most accessible one in each chapter. However, the recipes needed are generally recieved as quest rewards. The Books of Imaskar in chapter 2, for example. Another quest object teaches you how to make healing potions if you are a cleric. Etc, etc.

Is the well in Chapter Three or Four? If it's in Three, where can I find it?

Beorunna's Well is your home base in chapter 3. You can't miss it. :)

It's where you start out. I believe you can find him in the trading post.
