Basically, the crystal ball tells you which pillar you have to activate next. The problem is, all the rooms are identical, so you can't tell which one the crystal ball is showing. Or can you?

The very first time you look in the ball gives you the clue. There was a torch on the floor. So, what you have to do is place different items on the floor of each of the rooms to know which one to activate next when you look in the crystal ball.

 Placing stuff on the floor of every room!

Q: Did I think of that?
A: (Is an answer really needed...)

I just saved and reloaded a number of times...

Placing stuff is good but as long as you pick it up as you go. First time I done that I had left all my 1337 items on the floor then I completed the sequence and just as I was about to go pick them up on the other side the dwarf stopped me and next second I was in an a new area ;\

Tehehe. Why put good stuff on the floor? There's plenty of junk to toss around: Quartz crystals and the like. But yeah, it's easy enough to pick them up before you're all done. :)

It's not necessary to place anything on the floor if you have been around the whole area first, so all the corridors around the rooms are visible when you look in the chrystal ball. That way you can immediately tell whether it is a middle, left or right room that is shown. At the left cluster of rooms (IIRC) there was an opened secret door visible in the corridor behind the middle room. This door was also visible on one of the edges when the left or right room of the left cluster was shown, so it was always easy to tell which cluster the room was in.

What? Whenever I looked in the crystal ball, all I could see was a tight closeup of a very small patch of the floor directly in front of the stone pedestal in one of the rooms. How does being there before change anything?

Yes, as far as I remember, the view through the crystal ball is a practically identical view of each cubicle, with the exception of the one with a torch or something in it.

Incidently, you shouldn't have to put anything valuable on the ground there, as there should be TON of slaad tongues on the ground very close by.

I think it may have to do with whether you have zoomed in on your character as he looks in the chrystal ball, or not.

When my characters have been running between the rooms and the ball - and I've done it with three different characters now - I keep the view at max zoomed out to a birds view. This gives a better overview when you're in places you have been before, and makes it easier to manouver him back and forth when the map is already known.

When my guy looks in the ball, he sees the room in the same zoom as I've used for him - that means, I see the entire room in birds view, with parts of the other rooms/doors/corridors on each side. Piece of cake! :D
