View Full Version : Scribing scrolls

I am doing some research to add a 'Scroll Scribing' section to my Arcane Crafting Guide. I was scribing some spells yesterday, and I found some very bizarre things.

1. Flesh to Stone and Stone to Flesh only cost money (750GP) to scribe, no XP is wasted.

2. The spells Remove Blindness, Shades and Undeath to Dead cannot be scribed.

3. True Seeing cannot be scribed, due to "lack of a material component". Wtf? Nothing in the spell description indicates that any component is needed.

Could anyone confirm whether this is a bug on my version, or whether this happens all the time? I am using v1.66 with SoU, HotU, and the latest CEP. No other modules or hacks installed.

Probably the same issue as (deficiently) Craft Wand feat. How cracked up that is you know best anyway :nolike:

Strange though, they do release new patches and yet such an important part of the game stays largely unusable. Hard to understand :toofar:

It's a real pain in the backside. I've learnt to live with the strange gold/XP cost for crafting, but I can't stand not being able to scribe, or imbue a spell for no reason. Especially when the Feat says that you can scribe "any spell that the wizard knows".

Fair enough, the use of scrolls in the original game and expansions may even be more marginal than the use of wands or potions. But if properly implemented, it could be put to a very good use in a multiplayer environment.

Colthrun, report it to BioWare... I wouldn't be surprised if no one has yet.

I was actually checking on the Bioware forums when you suggested that, Tal. I found this comment (two years old, go figures) from Georg Zoeller regarding the "material component":

We restricted a couple of spells to make them unavailable for scrolls for balancing reasons (and that's not only true for multiplayer, chaincasting timestop will wreck balance in any campaign).

The three spells that require a material component by default are:
Harm
Timestop
True Seeing

The material component for all these spells is NW_IT_MSMLMISC17 (Dragon Blood) which is usually dropped by dragons.

I'm still looking about the other spells.
