View Full Version : What's your character and Henchmen?

What character are you currently using along with which Henchmen.

I'm using a Halfling Rogue called Frodo Baggins (original i know) who mainly uses shortbows but sometimes dives in with a trusty dagger. He is chaotic Neutral and is accompanied by Grimgnaw (damn he's a beefy henchmen, slaughters everyone).

Are you being followed by two henchman? Or only one at a time?

He said only Grimgnaw, and as far as I can count that is only one henchman.

I play a dwarven lawful good cleric called Fendur, and I use the classic longsword and shield. Right now I have Daelan for my henchman, but I've also used Sharwyn.

I play a fighter/ranger/thief and i have Linu for my henchwoman (She's not a man ya know) :D

I play a bard, and so far I have hired Linu, Tomi, and Daeleon (or whatever his name is), and I swap between them depending on what I come across. Works for me so far.

Though I may change soon. Any advices?

When you hire someone, they stay on contract. So when you need a different one, travel to them. Talk to them, agree to having them follow, and away you go. Then when you need a different one, repeat the process. I don't see it as an issue, because in reality no one can know and do everything can they? However, in your case, you have similar characters which may keep you alive, but doesn't help you progress very far. I would try Tomi, or Daleon/Grinaw (or whatever their names are!)

Singe Aylomen, Tiefling Assassin (4 rogue/9 monk). I use Daelan for my henchman atm, but I'm considering going solo, Daelan is really two powerful, and it bothers me using him. I'd much prefer a fighter type that wasn't just the pure tank, but I gotta take what I can get. I'd use one of the others, but I'm already a monk and rogue, and I hate the spellcasters' scripting, so I guess I'm stuck. When I start playing again, perhaps solo will be the way I go.

my character is Nasandra Relend, a female elven ranger. I've tried all of the henchpeople, but I stuck with Linu... Her healing's pretty useful and she can fight pretty well too. Her offensive spells aren't to bad either.

Boy, I love Linu.

I'm an archer and I use her to become my wall towards incoming melee attackers.

And when she casts some negative energy blast, it sometimes reaches 280 damage. It helped me to kill a lot of powerfull opponents.

And of course, she cute, single and funny.

(Damn , NWN is not as romantic or emotional as Buldur gates 2.)

If you want something really-really-really-really hard, try playing a wizard with Sherwyn.
No melee support.
Well, with that combo I'm at level 8 now, although I have to pick her up at the temple many-many times.

Elven Sorcerer. Now towards the end of Chapter 3 and so far I've used Tomi all the way.

With the spellpower available, I thought it would be more fun to go the Rogue way than with a powerful fighter.

Handy for traps etc so far, but I gather from other messages that he may fail more often in chapter 4. Oh well. With enough protections we can take the hits, can't we? Eh, Tomi? Tomi? Damn, back to the temple.

Earnenduil Cheren, elven cleric of Obad-Hai. He was originally accompanied by Tomi, but then decided to dump him and go with the bard. Unfortunately, keeping her alive uses up all of my healing spells.

Roshnak Senk (Half-Orc, Male, FTR 20) was my main character. I had to make an amulet that gave him +2 Int and Wis, because by Chapter 2, the "slow" dialogues were getting kinda annoying. Anyway, I used Tomi at first, then went with Linu when I discovered that while I *could* waste time letting Tomi pick locks and disarm traps, Roshnak could just smash everything and shrug off all but the mightiest blows. So, I switched to Linu, who mainly healed Roshnak after every mindless charge into danger, and tried her best not to get killed.

Eventually, after many long, sleepless nights of NWN, I began imagining dialogues between Roshnak and Linu, and started having my big half-orc fighter go out of his way to protect her. Then I fell asleep on my keyboard and woke up to find Roshnak running into a wall.

Evani Ly'Rune, my elven monk, lawful good, I use, well, Tomi at first, but any trap he couldnt disarm caused me to die, anything else I easily shrugged off, so I dropped him half way into chapter one, now I got Grimgnaw, duel monk power! Why have tomi when he can only pick and disarm things that I can easily get around? I want him for the deadily stuff, not the mediocre, and any chest that is very strong and can absorb tons of damage still can be destroyed, I just use my monk gloves (long death currently) so Grimngaw and I can do fun damage to tons of stuff!

I'm going to start a new character so i'll think i'll have a Dwarf, using a club. I'll start as a rogue, go up to level 3 and on the 4th level up, i'll go monk. And i'll still keep the club.

I have a Dwarven Paladin named Bullworth Stonehands. He comes from a family of rare farming dwarves, and his parents named him so because he was "worth a bull". He could pull a plowshare as well as any animal. The Stonehands comes from the fact that his great great uncle (founder of the clan) was very clumsy as a child. He was ostracized from the other dwarves and eventually left the Foaming Mountains and settled down among a group of human farmers. He became proficient at farming and eventually struck a deal with the Foaming Mountain dwarves to sell them food. When asked his name, he replied "Hiriam Stonehands" to chide them for thier former taunting of him.

Bullworth left home at the tender age of 95 to seek his fame and fortune along the Sword Coast. He travelled mostly with the Gnome Tomi Undergallows in his early adventurers in investigating the plague of Neverwinter. Tomi's ability to sense and disarm traps was greatly appreciated by the young Bullworth, whose hereditary clumsiness prevented him from becoming skilled at handling traps on his own.
However after the betrayal of the Lady Aribeth, Bullworth and Tomi parted ways (although they remained close friends and can occasionally be seen tormenting clerics during drunken tavern hopping sprees).

Bullworth then travelled to Luskan. Around this time he developed his trademark habit of breaking chests open with his head, and soaking up any damage. It is believed that he and Delaen Red Tiger first started thier legendary journeys together at this point.

Awesome story Nutrimat one thing though, and I'm not sure how Bullsworth is going to like it; Tomi is a halfling.

I play as a cleric that has added the exotic weapons feat. I don't use a henchman. They are experience points drains. I use a summoned level one dire badger. I get about 3 times the experience points that way.

I'm using a human fighter(9) for the killing power, Roque (2) for recoveing traps for $$$$$, and ranger (2) for the dual weild (Longswords, he slices, he dices!).
I started with Tomi, but switched to Linu. Her undead turning sweeps minor undead like a broom and her healing keeps me swinging during tough fights.
I'm thinking of dropping her and going alone for more experience. It seems that a romance could develope with her, though. Anyone know if NWN has romances?

Randall Wystan: 6/5 paladin/fighter. Fighter for feats and Discipline class skill (when fighting a dangerous enemy, I'd like to spend as little time on my back as possible, thank you.), Paladin for special abilities and Persuade (Yeah, I know I'm a noble knight and all that, but you don't think you could give me all your savings, too?). Primary henchman: Tomi. He just rocks, although he often sees a trap on the other side of a door (how?) and goes to disarm it, opening the door onto a huge crowd of baddies that hack him apart before I can call him back. If I can get the enemies focused on me, however, he does as much damage with his sneak attacks as my character does with greatsword specialization.

Sharwyn is a good multi-purpose character, and her song and the enhancement spells she casts on my pally/fighter make him a real juggernaut in battle, but her lockpicking skills are far inferior to Tomi's and she goes down incredibly fast if even a few enemies get to her. She would be my second choice.

I play a pure blooded elven sorceror. great for offensive and defnsive. better then the mage as they can use more of the meta magics... more spells= more pain
the only problem ive had with him is anicent red dragons. i just dont have the kind f spells to take them out. they are immune to all my main varieties.... fire and lightning are my specialties.on black dragons i do 120 damage a hit with my maximized chain lightnings.... defense isnt a worry either as i can fight a balor lord with out getting 1 damage for at least 10 minutes. and my defenses are set to last for 1 day with the help of my metamagics.

fighters are good but .. not as fun ( to me anyway )

im terribly weak against monks though.... they seem to kill me way to easy

I play as a 6th level ranger- 3rd level wizard. My familiar pixie takes care of the thief aspect of my party, and I have pretty much everything else that a party could need: As a ranger, I can cast divine spells and fight, and as a wizard, i can cast arcane spells. I had Daelen as a henchman for a while, but then I ditched him when I got the Greater Swordsman's Belt. Trust me on this- you don't need any help when you get the belt, and help costs you experience. Get the belt!

I also use an axe and a shortsword most of the time (Clangeddins Wayward Axe and Shortsword of Quickness, for the speed) But sometimes I use the ole fashion longsword and shield (Astral Blade +2 and Large Shield +3)

P.S. I smash everything possible. :D

I haven't been happy with the henchmen... if there was the character development of BG II, I might put up with their poor scripting, but as it is, they screw up my tactics more often than I can stand.

For solo adventuring, I haven't found a better mix than fighter/thieves or ranger/thieves... rogue skills allow them to move through the dungeons with ease and plan attacks, fighting skills and hitpoints allow them to survive alone.

In NWN, a Paladin-Champion, Sun Elf.
My favorite is Linu. I do hire the others because I leave no stone unturned. When you hire them, each HenchPerson gives you a personal Item, keep it. Every time I find something that I have no idea what it does or is for I talk to everyone. It ends up that each person has a Mission for each chapter, from when you meet them. After completeing their goal they give the main charcter something useful, which over the chapters increases in usefullness.
Yup, even the evil aligned charcter/s. "For the glory of Aribeth...uh Tyr"

Not quite high enough level to hold her own with spellcasting therefore she is relegated to high spell failure armors and her trusty Short Bow +1 while Daelan beats the holy hell out of anything that moves, so long is it doesn't have a knockdown attack... The funny thing is with her +6 attack and Rapid Shot she's not a half bad archer. Now if the Arcane Archer prestige class comes into play with the expansion...

And of course there is her trusty pixie sidekick Ziyi with all the theiving abilities of Tomi minus the annoyance. And if you can't disarm that damn trap, posses her and you have a kamakazi trap disarm. :)

Now if I could just heal I would be set...
